Second Annual PKS
Pickleball Tournament
Recreational and fun pickleball tournament makes a return
The Pine Knoll Shores Parks and Recreation Committee will host the towns
second annual mixed doubles Recreational and Fun Pickleball Tournament on
September 30 (rain date October 1). While final details are still in the works, some
improvements are planned for this year. There will be four pickleball courts for
the competition, located on Pine Knoll Boulevard near town hall. The Pine Knoll
Shores Police Department will block off a section of the street from Live Oak Court
to Fern Court for this purpose.
The tournament will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with registration beginning at
8:30. Competition is open to all skill levels, with a limit of 24 players. Advance
reservations are required and may be made by contacting Connie Brophy at
BrophyConnie@gmail.com on or before September 8. Registrants are welcome to
sign up as a partnership, but for those who do not have a partner, an attempt will be
made to pair you with another player. Registration is $15 per player, and registered
players will receive an embroidered visor and a hot dog lunch. Spectators will be
able to purchase lunch at the tournament.
In addition to the competition, there are plans to run pickleball clinics on the
courts behind town hall for those interested in learning more about this popular
sport. Loaner paddles will be available for participants, if needed, so lack of
equipment wont keep anyone from participating in the clinics. Another special
clinic that will be announced later is also in the works.
There are four outdoor pickleball courts in Pine Knoll Shores, three behind town
hall and one at Garner Park. The courts are available for anyone to use (children
under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult), and the nets are stored
in a locked deck box behind town hall. Just come to town hall and ask for the
combination that opens the lock. On most weekends players can be found on the
courts at town hall around 9 a.m. on Saturday (and sometimes on Sunday). This is
a good time to learn what pickleball is all about. Contact Jerry Price at jerryaprice@

Second Annual PKS
Fishing Tournament

The second annual Pine Knoll Shores fishing tournament will be held on
Saturday, October 14. Everyone living in Pine Knoll Shores, property owners and
town employees are eligible to fish. Participants may fish for a limited list of species
from a boat, kayak, the surf or from a pier in this inshore tournament.
We want everybody in town who ever fishes or wants to fish—and that includes
men, women, children and grandchildren—to join the fun. There’s plenty of time to
teach those grandkids to catch big fish before tournament day.
Registration and other details, including rules, species and some changes from
last year’s tournament, will come well in advance of the tournament. Proceeds from
the $10 registration fees will benefit the Crystal Coast Hospice House. Please mark
