1967-2017 PKANews ByAmryCox The Pine Knoll Association (PKA) annual meeting was held on Friday, June 23. The business meeting contained an overview of accomplishments and next years budgets as well as an update on possible recreation equipment options. Reports were given by the chairmen of the Waterways, Architectural Control, Parks and Publicity committees. John Clarke, David Parham and Bryan Smith were reelected to the board. As part of our year-long celebration of 50 years of PICA, copies of the newsletter, with upcoming events, were available. The original five volunteers were recognized for the months of effort to plan the 50th anniversary events—Laura Allen, Jeni Ault, Yvette Bannon, Lee Dawkins and Sofia Hein. Other volunteers who helped to make our first events a success include Mike Dilauro, Matt Lara, Rick Geisler, Dennise Wolfe, Reg Pendergraf, Bill Brophy, Jeni Ault, Suzanne Carmel, Jim Ault and Don Grant. The social part of the meeting was made enjoyable by the talents and efforts of Suzanne Carmel and Marissa Wolfe. Many thanks for your volunteer effort that was enjoyed by all. Another big thanks goes to Paulette Murphy and Kathy Foy, who checked in all the members who were able to join us this year at town hall. New PKA officers. New PKA officers for next year are President John Clarke, Vice President Jim Yankauskas, Secretary Shannon Smylie and Treasurer Don Hathaway. The annual Pine Knoll Shores Fourth of July parade was one of the largest in both participants and observers. Twenty-six golf carts plus the turtle patrol ATV made for a great show. Congratulations to the Farmer family for the best-decorated golf cart with a PKA 50th anniversary theme. As part of the year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Pine Knoll Association, members gathered at Ramsey Park on July 14 for an ice cream social.—p/7oto by Robert Cox Despite the 92-degree temperature, Don Grant of Atlantic Beach Ice Cream provided fudgesicles and ice cream sandwiches for the ice cream social on July 14 at Ramsey Park. So far Brock Basin, Hall Haven and Garner parks have been highlighted by our 50th anniversary events. Stay tuned for more fun events. PKA contact.
