Six liiiii MiLij Vv^iiiSTLE October 25, 19^3 Mention Around the Mills Finishing Mill By Beulah McBride Pfc. Don J. Finan, of Covington, Ky. and New River, Pvt. Douglas W. Nance, also from New River, N. C., spent last week-end with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nance, Leaksville. Pfc. Sherman E. Mills, brother of Margaret Mills, is spending a 15-day furlough here with relatives. He will return to Camp Rapid, S. Dak., where he is stationed. Mrs. Dan Carter and Mrs. Nannie Houchins spent last week in Floyd, Va., visiting friends and relatives. Ruth Hoover, of Draper, spent Sun day with Margaret Nance, Leaksville. Little Betty Lou Krantz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Krantz, under went an appendectomy at Leaksville hospital last week. She is improving nicely. Mrs. Tobe Hopper spent the week end with her sister at Axton, Va. Ernest Balser, of Camp Sibert, Ala., is spending a ten-day furlough with his family. Millard C. Morgan, of Spray, better known to his friends as Ted, is now in the U. S. Navy, stationed at Bainbridge Maryland. Mr. and Mrs. Otis Webb, of Newport News, Va., spent the week-end with their parents. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Burroughs and Mrs. Mary Ray spent Saturday in Greensboro shopping. Mrs. Callie Warren and Mrs. Annie Dillon were admitted to Leaksville hos pital for tonsil operations. We wish them a speedy recovery. Mrs. Simpson is very glad to say her little granddaughter, Barbara Ann Lawson, is recovering nicely from a tonsil operation. Misses Iradell and Arabell West had as visitors from Greensboro Sunday, Mrs. Harry Kingsburg, Mrs. John B. Queen, Cpl. Dewey Denny and Miss Margaret Mills. Fraker McBride, of the U. S. Navy, Bainbridge, Md., is spending a ten-day furlough with his wife and parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. A. McBride. V . . . — Woolen Mill By Sidney Cox S 2/C Jack Robertson, of Daytona Beach, Fla., visited his mother, Mrs. John Robertson, last week and was ac companied back to Florida by his brother, Joseph, who is entering the Navy next month. Mrs. Gertrude Dellinger visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Shelton, and her daughter, Mickey, in Charlotte, recently. John McArthur visited his parents at Stuart, Va., recently. Miss Iris Smith has returned to v/ork after having her tonsils removed. Oscar French and Robert Murphy have returned to work after being out for some time. Henry Cathey was in Winston-Salem on business last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Mack Nelson enjoyed a trip to parts of Kentucky last week. We welcome Mrs. Marie La Forte to the office at the Woolen Mill. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Betts have moved to the Highlands. Wanda Thomas has returned after a week’s vacation in the country. She re ports a wonderful time. V . . . — Bedspread Mill By Morrel Conner Mrs. Archie D. Carter left this week to join her husband who is stationed at Camp Cook, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Merriman and little daughter, Brenda, of Fieldale, spent Friday and Saturday in the home of the former’s brother, Clyde Merri man. Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Meeks and son, Tommy, spent the week-end with Mr. Meeks’ mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Meeks, on the Stoneville road. Pvt. Elmer Powell, who is stationed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md., is spending a seven-day furlough with his wife. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Hunt and two sons, of Panama, spent the past week end with Mrs. Sallie B. Stultz, on Harris street. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fulton and chil dren and Mrs. Jimmie Burcham and little daughter spent the week-end in Roanoke. L. M. Moore has resigned his posi tion as loom fixer in the weave room and has gone into the cafe business in Draper. We wish for you the best of luck, Mr. Moore. Someone told me they saw two of our soldier boys in town this week-end but couldn’t find out their rank, but the last I heard one was a sergeant and the other a corporal. Sgt. Walter L. Simmons (Durk), as most of us know him, has been in England about a year and a half. He looks swell. Cpl. Marion Beck is here for the first time in 15 months. Maybe we’ll find out more about these fellows before our next issue. Blanket Mill By Katherine Turner We were glad to see Carl Powe > Thomas Yeatts, Fraker McBride, Law son Talbott, Sam Haymore, and Franklin from the Army, and Cliffo^ Ball of the Navy in town during the week. Clifford, by the way, has been promoted to second class petty officer. Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Carter spent the week-end at Indian Valley visiting Mrs. Carter’s mother. Elizabeth Rose made her initial aP" pearance at Leaksville hospital October 15 th. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Young and granddaughter of Mrs. Rose Young, Draper. Miss Tula Rogers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Rogers, was in town for the week-end. Tula is now work ing in Norfolk, Va. Miss Lucile Powell and Bryant Brown were quietly married at Leaks ville on October 16th. Congratulations. Mr. and Mrs. Denzel Johnston and daughter, Betty Carol, Mrs. S. J- Samuels and Miss Mozelle Johnston visited Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Thompson of Radford, Va., Sunday. They also visited Mrs. Elbert Yeattes, who is in the Community hospital at Radford. Hilda Smith attended the funeral of her uncle, R. H. Graham, at Salem, Va., Sunday. V ... — CHATTER VS. JABBER (Continued from Page Five) Iva should be an example to us. She spent Monday afternoon in Danville at a church conference. Lucy Conner and Malvene Ferguson are out on their vacation this week. It’s lovely weather and we do envy them just wait until next year—we all say. Jesse, Fort Leonard Wood has been keeping Mary Lee busy lately. The phone calls and letters are coming thick and fast. I think that is interesting, don’t you? (Gloria.) Rebecca Pender certainly must be a quiet one because we simply cannot dig up anything on her, as with the others just wait. FLASH! Rebecca is going to Durham in about two weeks. Ha! The next issue will be full! We were all saddened to hear of the severe injury to our friend and co worker, Jesse Dehart.
