Dear Service Men and Friends:
Since the pictures of all the “Beau
ties” are to be in this issue, I will just
give you the news items and leave out
the club meetings and so forth in order
to give more room.
Mr. and Mrs. E. Sherrill and Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Norris were business visitors
in Roanoke last Saturday.
T. E. Adkins is recuperating after
undergoing an operation at the Jeffer
son hospital in Roanoke.
Wendell Walker, of the U. S. Army,
spent several days recently with rela
tives and friends.
Corbett Lyons, S 2/C of Camp Perry,
spent his boot leave with his family
here last week.
Cpl. Thurman “Whitey” Lyons, of
U. S. Army, spent a furlough here re
cently.
Pvt. Herman “Blackie” Lyons, of
Seymour, Indiana, spent several days
here last week. Incidently these three
boys are brothers.
Mrs. H. A. Webb, who has been re
cuperating at the Virginia Home for the
past month, has returned to her home.
Willie Green, S 2/C of Camp Perry,
spent his boot leave with his relatives
and friends here last week.
Pvt. Alvin Hundley spent the week
end with his wife last week. Pvt.
Hundley is stationed at Camp Lee.

and Melvin Rakes, S 2/C, spent their
boot leaves wth their respective fami

Pfc. Lauren Via, spent a furlough
last week with his relatives and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Willie Sawyers, of
Newport News, spent the week-end
here.
Sgt. and Mrs. Gordon Warrick, of
Charlotte, visited relatives here last
week.
Mrs. D. D. Hutchenson has returned
home after spending several weeks
with her husband. Cpl. Hutchenson is
stationed at Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Thurman “Mutt” Watson, of U. S.
Army, spent several days with rela
tives and friends here recently.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Settliff an
nounce the birth of a girl on May 8th.
Rev. H. K. Swann was a visitor of
Rev. and Mrs. J. Landon Maddox in
Roanoke last week.
Mrs. Robert Morris, of Portsmouth,
visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C.
Perry last week.
Pvt. Clinton Martin visited his pa
rents and relatives here recently.
Andrew W. Warren, S 1/C, spent the
week-end with his wife last week.
Well, fellows even if we are squee
zed for space. I’ve just got to tell you
that the Baptist church has obtained a
pastor. The Rev. Anthony Pollard, of
Danville, Va., has accepted the call ex
tended to him. And to him and his
family may we say, we’re delighted to
have you come to our community and
we certainly hope you like our town.
Well fellows, it seems that’s really
quite a bit of news and so I’ll stop for
this time and until next time. I’ll say
may God’s blessings be with you all.
