Misses Doris and Mary Kathryn Ship-
ton of Salisbury were the week-end
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Shipton.
Mr. J. T. Newman, Mr. and Mrs. Hale
Phipplis and little daughter Gale, of
Greensboro, were visiting relatives in
Leaksville Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Booker, son Wil
liam Charles, and Mr. T. C.Stanley spent
last Sunday afternoon in the home of
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ashworth in Draper.
Hello, Tommie Woodlief, we heard
about you joining a new outfit. Hurry
and get it over with and come home.
Mr. and Mrs. George Coveil and fam
ily of Elkton, Md., Mrs. J. W. Keys and
Mrs. Clyde Shelor of Martinsville; Va.,
were week-end guests of Mrs. Irva Hop
kins, Railroad street.
Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Knight, Mr. and
Mrs. T. C. Stanley attended the Golden
Wedding of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Prilla-
man at Stoneville.
Misses Lottie Eggleston, Louise Shu
mate and Edith Hawkins were dinner
guests of Miss Nancy Matlock, Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Chester Robertson and
sons, visited Mr. and Mrs. Junior Mur
phy at Roanoke, Va., last week.

Mr. B. T. Robertson recently visited
his daughter, Mrs. Eliza Washburn and
daughter. Sunshine.
Mary Thomas visited relatives and
friends near Roanoke, Virginia last Fri
day and Saturday.
Mrs. R. J. Sharon, Frank Roberts and
daughter May, of Pine Hall and Stokes-
dale, spent Sunday with the latter’s sis
ter, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Richardson on
Lawson street.
Mrs. Earl Moore and Mrs. H. W. Pe
ters were Sunday afternoon visitors in
the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Fitz
gerald.
Hazel Roberts Groom, recently spent
two weeks with her mother, Mrs. Annie
Roberts enroute to join her husband
Pvt. Ned Groom, v/ho is stationed at
Denver, Colorado.
We are glad to have Clara Brown,
Guy Austin ' and Elinabeth McCollum
back with us after being out sick.
Those on the sick list now are Ora At
kins, Opal Baughn, India Hubbard, Ma
mie Jones, Katie Land, and Edna Mc

Eliza Washburn, got all excited Mon
day morning. She heard from that
sailor brother of hers Leslie Robertson
S2/c and he is on hi" way home. Bring
him on down to see us Eliza. We want
to see him.
Garland Ferguson, formerly with the
Frazier Brothers, has given up his radio
career, for a job sweeping in the fin
ishing mill, and now spends 40 minutes
at lunch time singing in the American
warehouse. “How about singing for us
sometime Garland, we like singing too?”
A fellow who is always putting some
thing in the Whistle for someone else
and never gets his name in there is
about to see his name in print. Here
goes “STAFFORD STEGALL.” How
does it look? Now do you feel any bet
ter Stafford?
We have a fellow stepping high in the
bleachery, but hasn’t stepped in any
holes yet, and now* his theme song is
“I’ll Be Seeing You” since he got a pair
of specs. How about it Ethan, I think
you sorta acquired a new name about
that time didn’t you?

Woolen Mill

Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Woodlief ’enter
tained for their daughter, Mrs. Louise
Sweeney, Thursday night April 26. She
was showered with many useful gifts.
C. M. Pender received a card from
his son, Philip, who has been a prisoner
of war since December 17, dated Feb.
This is the first message that has been
received from him since he has been
reported a prisoner. We hope that he
has been liberated by now.
We’ve never seen anyone so thrilled
as Mrs. Minnie Martin is about her first
grandchild, Brenda Anne. We hear that
she gets up at all hours of the night to
she if she’s there, afraid that she might
have been dreaming. We’ll have to
admit she’s a granddaughter to be
proud of for she’s a beautiful baby.
We welcome Coy Martin to our Mill
as an employee of the Inspection de
partment.
Sgt. Geoffrey Thacker, brother of
Lucille Joyce, was home for the week
end. He is now stationed at Camp
Davis, N. C.
Mrs. Della Pratt, of the Finishing
department, has received word that her
husband, Pfc. Billie Pratt, has been
slightly wounded. He is now in a hos
pital in France.
We hope Elroy Cox is doing nicely
after having his tonsils removed Satur
day.
Sam Hale, of Roanoke,Va., visited his
niece, Mrs. Sadie Carter, during the
week-end.
S 3/c and Mrs. Jesse Hale and babyi
all of Bainbridge, Md., spent an eight^^
day leave with relatives and friends
here.
Edna Kiser visited friends in Reids-
ville for the week-end.
Mrs. Lorene Bailey visited Mr. and
Mrs. A. A. Smith in Burlington during
the week-end.
We all express our deepest sympathy
to the family and friends of Hugh
Angle, of the Army,brother of Sadie
Angel, of the Finishing department,
who died in a hospital in Italy recently.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dillon have a
newcomer at their home now. It’s a
baby daughter, Angela Sue. .
Pfc. Junie Nichols, son of Mrs. Allen
Nichols, of Spray, was liberated April
29 in Mooseburg, Germany, by the
Seventh Army. He has been oversca.s
nearly three years and has been a pri
soner of war in Germany for ten
months.
Mrs. Loula Meeks has received a
telegram from I he War Department
stating that her son, Russell, who has
been reported missing in action since
December, is a prisoner of war.
Bransford Carter visited his parents
of Ridgeway, Va., during the week-end.
We welcome Pauline Smith, Swannie
Odell, Ruby Minter, Helen Higgs andj
Brown as new employees of our mill.
Rangeley Price, S 2/c of the Navy,
spent the week-end with his sister,
Mrs. Wesley Shropshire.

Karastan Mill

Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jones and daugh
ter, Barbara, visited the former’s
brother, who is critically ill, over the
week-end at Guilford College.
Sgt. Edward Priddy and wife have
returned to Spence Field, Ga., after
spending a 15-day furlough in the home
of the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Posey Priddy, on Jefferson street.
Lorraine Nance, of Danville, Va.,
spent the week-end with Inez Clarke
in Oakland Heights.
We are glad to hear that Lottie
Church is recovering nicely from her
recent operation at the Leaksville hos
pital.
Jesse Wilbur Joyce, F 1/c of Dan
ville, R. I., recently spent a five-day
leave with his wile and son Emma Mae
and Kenneth Joyce, Leaksville route 1.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Turner and
Clint Atkins attended the horse show
at Chatham, Va., last Saturday night.
Mrs. Lem Shelton, of Meadow road,^^
Draper, entertained at a delightful^B
party on April 20 honoring her little^^
daughter, Kay Frances, on her ninth
birthday. The little honoree’s mother
directed a number of games in which
