Ancient Catalog Of Company Found In Pekin (Illinois) An interesting old catalog of Field Leiter Co., when it v/as located on the present site of the Retail Store in Chi cago, was recently turned into the Arch ives department by Mr. A. F. Lux of the New York Office. Several years ago on one of his trips through Illinois Mr. Lux was shown this catalog by one of his customers, Mr. George Ehrlicher. The catalog had been a prized possession of Mr. Ehr- licher’s father. The first Mr. Ehrlicher was one of the original members of the firm of Schipper & Block, which was founded in Pekin, Illinois, in the early ’60’s. When the call for historical ma terial went out this spring, Mr. Lux remembered this interesting item and wrote to Mr. Ehrlicher, asking to bor row it. Mr. Ehrlicher replied that he could think of no better place for such a highly prized piece and sent it to Mr. Lux as a permanent addition to the Archives. It is a pocket-sized book of approxi mately 158 pages 3-14 x 5\z inches, as it was intended for a notebook as well as a catalog of merchandise. Bound in real leather with gold stamping on both front and back covers, it is profusely illustrated. The illustration and typog raphy are typical of the era in which it was published. The title page carries the inscription “SPRING CATALOGUE 1871 FIELD LEITER CO., STATE & WASHINGTON STR., CHICAGO, ILLI NOIS.” The type and illustrations are printed in black ink with a decorative border, on all pages, in red. This copy has been in the Ehrlicher family since 1879, as Mr. Ehrlicher’s name is written on the fly leaf together with the date. Schipper & Block today arc still a Marshall Field & Company account, which speaks well of customer relationship of over 75 years. The Company is anxious to collect every piece of historical material for Archives Office. The Manufacturing Di vision wants to do its share. If you have any material—old pictures, catalogs, clippings or other material—please con tribute to the Archives. In Spray, send to Bert Weaver; in Zion, to Mrs. K. Mair; in New York, to Paui Howard. These persons will see that it is prop erly cataloged and placed in the hands of the Archives Office. OLD CATALOGUE OF FIELD LEITER CO.
