August 4, 1947 FIELDCREST M.ILL WHISTLE Page Three Son Of Rayon Man Wins DeMolay Honor Trophy Homer Hodges, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Hodges, of Leaksville, won the Thomas R. Fogle award at the recent State conclave in Winston-Salem. The trophy, given annually to the most out standing DeMolay member in North Carolina, was presented to Hodges in ceremonies at Leaksville July 16 by Halsey B. Leavitt, Jr., left, superintend ent of the Woolen Mill, who won the same award in 1D31. Leavitt is chairman of the advisory board for the Leaksville chapter. Young Hodges’ father is a supervisor in the Rayon Weave Room. Blcachery (By Charlotte Martin) We put out our welcome mat to Vir ginia Curry and Alpha Cruise this week. Mrs. Allie Houchins and son, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Young and children, Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Crews and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James Webster and daugh ter and Ted Webster spent the day at Fairystone Park Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. “Mutt” Wilson and chil dren spent Sunday with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Wilson, of Axton, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Richardson, Mr. Russell Richardson and sons, Francis, Maurice and Kent, visited the former’s brother, Grover Richardson, in Stokes- dale. Evelyn Beck is all excited these days. She and husband “Ran” have moved out in the country and started house keeping. Best of luck to you, and how about inviting us up for supper some time? Talmadge Roberts of Chicago visited his sister, Mrs. Hunter Richardson, last week. TELLING THE WORLD:—Shown above is the large sign recently placed atop the stair tower at the Sheeting Mill. The circled “R” indicates that the trade name “Fieldcrest” is registered under the copyright laws. Other signs are being placed at the Bedspread Mill at Leaksville and the Towel Mill at Fieldale, Va. Highway signs are already in place at main intersections in the Tri-City and Fieldale, Va., areas. Right methods help prevent accidents. Centra! Warehouse Office Chatter Vs. Jabber (By Glennice Jones) Robert Joyce is a grandfather! Man- ley and Margaret Joyce have a son, born July 29. Margie Perry Clarke has told us that she will leave the last of August to enter Wake Forest College this fall where her husband. Bill Clarke, is also a f tudent. Christine Martin celebrated a birth day recently. That new watch glitters cciually with that gorgeous ring. There was also a new radio for a present. Sounds like Christmas in July! Nancy Matlock’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Matlock, will return this week from Colorado where they stayed a month with Mis. Matjock’s sister. Nancy vacationed with Lottie Eggleston while they were gone. Ed Martin journeyed North to Con necticut on his vacation to see Frank Paulin, who played ball here last sea son. Jack Ormand went deep sea Ashing recently and caught a 35-lb. dolphin down on the coast of North Carolina. The big news in the Blanket Stock Room is that Montague Thomas is mar ried to Miss Bessie Smith of Price. Con gratulations! Jimmy Lamar went to Pamlico Beach on his recent vacation. He reports a good time, but also a very quiet one. Mildred and Clarence Martin moved into their lovely new home on the Dra per Road last week.
