High School Students To Act As Officials
Of Fieldcrest Mills Mondag Afternoon
Boys And Girls Will
Become Executives And
Secretaries As Feature
Of Community Week
High school students of the Tri-Cities
will act as officials of Fieldcrest Mills
Monday afternoon, October 13 as a fea
ture of Fieldcrest Community Week.
Seniors at Leaksville and Draper high
schools were named this week to oc
cupy top positions in Fieldcrest man
agement, with high school girls named
to serve as secretaries for each of the
student executives.
Eleven boys and eleven girls from
Leaksville high school were appointed
to positions in the mills and office in
Leaksville and Spray. Four boys and
five girls were named at Draper high
school for positions at Draper. The fifth
girl chosen at Draper will act as nurse
of the Draper dispensary of the Field
crest Medical department.
The entire group will lunch with the
real officials and secretaries at the
Y. M. C. A. Fieldcrest cafeteria at 1
p. m. Following the luncheon the group
will split up and return to their respec
tive mills and offices where the students
will be “in charge” during the after
noon.

March 10, 1936, assuming the duties of
assistant general manager of the Chi
cago & Suburban Stores. He became
first vice-president and a director of
the Company in 1938, and was in charge
of the Manufacturing Division during
1938 and 1939. On April 5, 1940, he re
turned to the Retail Division and was
appointed general manager of the Chi
cago & Suburban Stores. He was elect
ed president of the Company on Feb
ruary 2, 1943.
President McBain was born in 1902
in Grand Rapids, Mich. He attended
elementary and preparatory school in
Grand Rapids and later the University
of Michigan. Active in both indoor and
outdoor sports. Company 25-Year-Man
McBain plays golf, tennis, and curling—
particularly the latter, a sport at which
he, like all Scots, believes himself to
be at his best.
He is one of the most civic-minded
of all Field presidents, serving or hav
ing served as a director or trustee of
the Chicago Association of Commerce,
the Chicago Chapter of the American
Red Cross, the Children’s Memorial
Hospital, the State Street Council, and
the Chicago Natural History Museum.
The McBains have three children—
two daughters, 15 and 16, and a son, 19.

Public Invited To
Visit All Plants
Wednesday, Oct. 15
The plants of Fieldcrest Mills in
Leaksville, Spray, Draper and Fieldale,
Va., will be thrown open to the public
Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 1 to 10 p. m.
as the mills hold “open house” as a fea
ture of Fieldcrest Community Week.
The general public is invited to visit
the plants on this date. The mills will
be in operation during the visitations.
Persons who wish to visit the Finish
ing Mill at Spray are requested to visit
this particular plant between 1 and 6
p. m. since part of the operations are on
a one-shift basis. Colored citizens are
invited to visit any of the Tri-City
plants Thursday, October 16, from 9 to
11 a. m. and 4 to 6 p. m.
Special tours have been arranged
during the morning hours for school
children to visit the mills. Also, special
invitations have gone out from the
management inviting all employees and
their families and friends to visit the
mills.

charge of the visitations have been ap

Invitation To Public
All church congregations and the
general public are invited to attend the
devotional service at the Leaksville
High School auditorium Sunday night,
October 19, at 7:45 o’clock which will
bring to a close the Fieldcrest Mills
management conference on “Looking
Ahead in Our Public Relations.”
No tickets are required for admission
to this meeting. The program will be
broadcast over Station WLOE, Leaks
ville, starting at 8 P. M.
Dr. George D. Heaton, pastor of Myers
Park Baptist church, Charlotte, will be
the speaker for the devotional service,
of which J. O. Thomas is chairman.
Following Dr. Heaton’s address on
“The Nature of Community,” Luther H.
Hodges, vice-president of Marshall Field
& Company and general manager of
Fieldcrest Mills, will speak briefly in
closing the conference.
