Library Gives Doll Party For Children

Wednesday morning, December 29. The party was sponsored by the library and
the Venie J. Weaver Study Club.
Miss Marianne Martin, librarian, conducted the program which featured the
introduction of each doll to the group, stories about dolls, and a Mother Goose
quiz. Assisting Miss Martin were Miss Sunshine Murphy of the library staff; Mrs.
Douglas Craddock, president of the Venie J. Weaver Study Club; Mrs. E. D. Pitcher
and Miss Elaine Dillon, club members.
Central Y Team Remains
Undefeated In League
The Central Y. M. C. A. Men’s Volley
Ball Team, organized this year, re
mains undefeated in the Carolina-Vir-
ginia Volley Ball League. This league
is composed of Y. M. C. A. teams from
spray. Draper, Leaksville, Schoolfield,
and two teams from Danville Y. M. C. A.
The Central “Y” team journeyed to
Richmond December 18 and made a
good showing against the Richmond
Y. M, C. A. team, the Southern area
champions. Richmond won the cham-
pionsnip in the tournament at Atlanta
last year, and went on to the National
Tournament and beat South Bend and
Anderson, Ind., but lost to Los Angeles
who went to the finals against Holly
wood, the national champions.
A non-league game has been sched
uled for the Central “Y” team Janu
ary 15 at Kannapolis “Y,” which has
one of the strongest volley ball teams
in the state. On January 22 the Central
“Y” boys will play Greensboro City “Y.”
A round robin tournament between
Spray, Kannapolis, and Greensboro is
planned for January 29 at Central “Y.”
The local team practices each Tuesday
and Friday at 7:00 p. m. at Central “Y.”
The team will play in the North Caro
lina-South Carolina volley ball tourna
ment in Winston-Salem in March. If
successful there they will get an invita
tion to the Southern Tournament in
Atlanta. J. O. Burnett, of the Y. M; C. A.
staff, is coach.
Several Organization
Changes Are Announced
The following organization changes
effective January 1, in the Department
of Industrial and Public Relations have
been announced by Harold W. Whit
comb, assistant general manager, and
Macon P. Miller, director of industrial
and public relations.
J. O. Thomas is appointed personnel
manager for the Bedspread and Kara-
stan mills. He will continue his duties
as Veterans’ Counselor.
J. W. Norman is appointed staff as
sistant to the Director of Industrial and
Public Relations.
W. B. Weaver will resume his duties
in the Department of Industrial and
Public Relations, in charge of the Spray
Civic organization and mill village
maintenance and upkeep.
Leaksville High P.-T. A.
Will Meet Tonight
The LeaksviUe High School P.-T.A.
will hold its first meeting of the new
year Monday evening January 10 at
7:30 o’clock in the high school cafeteria.
An unusually interesting student-par
ticipation program is planned. All stu
dents and parents are invited to the
meeting which is open to the public.
