The Legionnaires plan to build a home and recreation building for Post 168. Emory Goode (right), manager of the Fieldcrest Hosiery Mill at Fieldale, made the presentation in ceremonies at the Y. M. C. A. The gift from the Com pany consisted of two and a half acres in the residential section. Plans Announced (Continued from Page One) Gilbreth, world’s foremost woman engineer and the mother of 12 children, upon whose family life the book and movie, “Cheaper By The Dozen,’’ were based, will speak to the Council at its meeting Tuesday evening, November 21, in the Leaksville High School audi torium. It will be a ladies’ night, with wives and husbands of the Junior and Senior Council members invited to the joint meeting. The program committee also has booked the Council’s Christmas Show to be given at 2:30 p. m. and 7:30 p. m., Saturday, December 16th, in the Leaks ville High School auditorium. Karston’s “Big Show of 1951,” consisting of about 16 people will be presented on the stage. Included as an additional feature will be Cheeta, the chimpanzee that plays in the Tarzan movies. Both the Karston Show and Cheeta have been well re ceived at theatres and at other appear ances throughout the country. The wives and husbands of members of both the Junior and Senior Councils are invited to the Christmas Show, De cember 16th. There will be identical shows in the afternoon and evening. Children of Council members are invit- ■ ed to the afternoon performance. ★ The most honest person found re cently is the man who put a nickel in a broken parking meter. FIFTEEN YEAES AGO: The picture above shows members of a night school class in carding and spinning calculations conducted at Draper around 1935 or 1936. E. L- Funderburk, foreman of carding and spinning at the Blanket Mill, was the instructor. Kneeling, E. L. Funderburk, Johnnie Chambers, J. E. Bateman (deceased); standing, Walter Barker, Prentice Moore, J. L. Hewlett, Fletcher Hopper, Edd Sum ner, Dillard Sumner, Boyd Minter, Walker Dehart, David Skinnell, Albert Sumner and Edgar Harris. ^ will be at 8 p. m. in the Leaksville High School auditorium. The public is invited to the concert- No admission fee will be charged. The single solo, the tenor aria, “On-a Way, A-wake, Beloved,” will be sung by Durward King. Mrs. Harris Nelson, Jr., will be accompanist for the per formance. Choral Society Will Present Fall Concert “Hiawatha’s Wedding-Feast” will be presented by the Tri-City Choral So ciety in their fall concert Friday, No vember 3.
