Vacation Checks Will
Total Over |370,000
A
Vacation Pay To Be Issued
On Regular Pay Days This
Week To 4,449 Employees
*-
Vacation pay for employees of Field-
crest Mills in Leaksville, Spray, Dra
per, and Fieldale, Virginia, this year
will total more than $370,000. Vacation
pay checks will be distributed on the
regular paydays during this week. At
the Towel Mill where operations are
curtailed for inventory purposes and
because of a seasonal drop in orders
770 employees received their vacation
checks Friday, June 22.
Employees eligible for vacation pay
number approximately 4,449 as com
pared with 4,356 last year. The equival
ent of two weeks’ regular pay will go
to 3,020 employees and 1,429 will re
ceive the equivalent of one week’s pay.
Almost 100% of all the employees
now working will receive vacation
checks. In addition, the persons out
sick and those laid off within the past
12 months will, in most cases, draw
vacation pay.
Fieldcrest Mills was one of the first
textile companies to give employees
paid vacations. The vacation pay plan
was adopted in 1940. For several years
during World War II when the mills ran
continuously during the summer, the
vacation pay was given as a bonus in
addition to full time earnings.
The customary vacation period is
being observed this year with aU mills
except the Rayon Mill closed down
from July 2-8. Operations will be re
sumed on Monday, July 9.
All employees with continuous ser
vice of 5 or more years receive 4% of
their earnings' for the past year. Those
with one or more years of service but
less than 5 years receive 2% of their
past year’s earnings.
In addition to the vaction pay, group
insurance premiums and Mutual Aid
dues will be waived for the week end
ing July 8.
The Rayon Mill will be closed for a
week later in the year while the ma
chinery is being relocated in the former
Woolen Mill building.
The Employee’s Store at Spray will
be closed Thursday, Friday, and Satur
day, June 28, 29, and 30 for inventory
and will remain closed during the week
the mills are standing for vacation. The
store will re-open Monday, July 9.
