MILL WHISTLE
Evening Swimmers
Monica White (at top) and Thelma
Cassell, employees of the Electric
Blanket Mill, seem to be getting up in
the world as they climb the diving
tower at the Leaksville “Y” swimming
pool.
Evening swimming hours at the pool
are proving popular with large numbers
of grown-ups visiting the pool on Mon
days, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fri
days from 7 to 9 p. m. A “Learn-to-
Swim” class for adults will be held at
the pool the week beginning August 6.
The class is being organized now and
indications are there will be a sizable
group taking the course.
Those interested in joining the class
may secure information by telephoning
the Leaksville Y. M. C. A. (Phone 438.)

Funds Being Raised
To Help Blue Baby
Pretty, blue-eyed Donnie Rodgers,
22-months old son of Mr. and Mrs.
Raleigh Rodgers of Draper, has been
given only a short while to live unless
he can have a delicate and expensive
heart operation. Specialists at Johns
Hopkins Hospital have scheduled the
operation for July 30.
A movement is under way in the Tri-
Cities to raise funds that will help to
defray costs of the operation and make
it possible for Mr. and Mrs. Rodgers to
accompany their only child to Baltimore
for the operation.
Donnie’s father is employed in the
Blanket Mill Spinning Dept, and his
mother (Esther) formerly worked in
the same department.
The Draper branch of the Leaks
ville Bank and Trust Company has
opened an account in the name of the
“Donnie Rodgers Fund” and contribu
tions may be mailed or sent there. The
Draper Y’s Men’s club will organize a
team of workers to pick up money or
checks at homes in Draper and vicinity.
Donors should call Harold Squires
(860-J). Persons in Leaksville-Spray
may leave contributions at the Leaks
ville News.
