WHISTLE Textile Safety Film “As Others See Us” Ready For Release Glenn Simpson, foreman of the Bleachery Sewing Department, plays One of the leading roles in the safety film “As Others See Us” which is now being released for showings. J. E. West, second hand in the Shipping Dept, at the Central Warehouse, also has a prominent part in the movie. Mr. Simpson plays the part of a foreman at s mythical North Carolina textile mill. Mr. West acts the part of a motor-pow- 6red lift truck operator. Several scenes were filmed at Field- crest Mills. Outdoor scenes are at the Blanket Mill and part of the action takes place at a cotton storage warehouse at the Draper mills. Remainder of the Pictures were filmed at various textile (Continued on Page Five) Rayon Mill Will Be Moved By Late Fall Work is progressing satisfactorily on modernization of the former Woolen Mill Building to which the Rayon Mill will be moved late this Fall. The pro ject was held up somewhat by delay in receiving structural steel, but all steel has now been received and is on the site. A new boiler plant is being installed and the installation of major air condi tioning equipment has been started. The schedule calls for all building altera tions to be completed by October 1 ex cept wiring, painting, etc. Wooden col umns on the first floor weave room have been replaced by steel columns and trusses. All electrical wiring equipment has been received except the power transformers and these have been prom- ' ised for delivery in September. Dramatics Club Will Be Organized In Tri-Cities The Junior Woman’s Club is sponsor ing the formation of a dramatics club the Tri-Cities. The organization *neeting will be at Station WLOE at '^:30 Thursday evening, September 13, which time officers will be elected. Persons interested in any phase of dra- ftiatics are invited to attend the meet ing. Fieldcrest Show Will Begin Sixth Year Over WLOE Sunday, Sept. 9 H. W. Whitcomb, assistant general manager, will speak briefly on the Fieldcrest radio program which returns to the air September 9 over WLOE, Leaks ville, and WMVA, Martins ville, Va. The pro gram will be heard each Sunday at 3 p. m. Resumption of the Fieldcrest Show marks the beginning of the sixth year of the broadcasts over WLOE and the third series over WMVA. The Fieldcrest Quartet will be featured again this year. The quartet is comprised of Cecil Squires, Bedspread, first tenor; Harold Squires, Draper Standards, second tenor; Dan Squires, Sheeting, baritone; and James Marlowe, Karastan Stand ards, bass. Miss Mamie Link, of the Draper Cost Dept., is pianist for the quartet and frequently is heard as vocalist on the program. It is planned to continue the “Mr. Fieldcrest” guessing game which has proven popular in past years. Human interest stories involving an employee from Fieldale and an employee from a mill in the Tri-Cities will be presented on each broadcast. Miss Mamie Link “Y” Membership Drive Zell D. Ford, president of the Tri- City Y. M. C. A.’s has announced plans for the annual “Y” membership cam paign to be conducted September 24- 29. The drive will be handled along the same lines as last year, with each unit carrying on its own campaign under direction of the president of each Y. M. C. A. board. It is expected that the “Y’_’ presidents will appoint campaign chairmen, who in turn, will appoint the captains and workers. Individual cash prizes will be given the most effective workers and a cup will be awarded to the unit ob taining the highest percentage increase in memberships.
