Foreign Missionaries Visit Mills Missionaries on furlough from vhe foreign fields were recent visitors at the, Blanket and Sheeting mills. Mem bers of the group were in Draper to speak on the program of the sixth an nual missionary conference at Draper Baptist Church. Their tour of the mills was arranged by Rev. John H. Reinert, pastor of the church. The Rev. .J. K. McConnell, Fieldcrest industrial chap lain, served as guide. The missionaries will remain in the United States on 12-months furloughs after which they will return to their respective fields. One couple, Rev. and Mrs. Howard Street, missionaries to the Belgian Congo, are at present occupying the missionary home adjacent to the Draper Baptist Church, which is main tained by the church. All of the missionaries are connected with Baptist Mid-Missions, Cleveland, Ohio, with which the Draper Baptist Church is associated. Mother was warning little Nancy about being careful crossing streets. “Oh, don’t worry,” the child assured her mother, “I always wait for the empty space to come by.” William Pittendreigh Is S. T. A. President William Pittendreigh, former Field- crester and brother of Mrs. Helen Rob ertson of the Comptroller’s Dept., was elected president of the Southern Tex tile association at the group’s recent meeting at Blowing Rock. Mr. Pittendreigh, now superintendent of Riegel Textile Corp. at Ware Shoals, S. C. began his textile career at Field crest. During the 1930’s he was assist ant foreman of the throwing department at our Silk Mill (now the Synthetic Fabrics Mill.) He was with the Judson Mills, a part of the Deering Milliken group in Green ville, and Laurens, S. C. before joining Riegel in 1947. He first was assistant superintendent of the Ware Shoals plant, making synthetic and novelty fabrics, but has been superintendent since 1948. His wife is the former Miss Earline Shannon, of Charlotte, who was a rug designer at Karastan at the time of their marriage. They have daughters aged 16 and four, and a son, two years old. The Southern Textile association, composed of textile executives, staff men and supervisors, was organized at Spray in 1910. Two Fieldcrest men, D. A. Purcell and J. O. Thomas are past presidents and members of the board of governors. Howard Barton, of our Engineering Dept, is secretary of the Northern North Carolina-Virginia di vision and R. C.
