Simons Appointed To Textile Committee D. E. Simons, superintendent of the Towel Mill, has been named a member of the executive committee of the North ern North Carolina-Virginia Division of Southern Textile Association. His election came at the fall meeting of the division Saturday, November 10, at Cooleemee. He takes office immediately. Charles H. Ward, of Highland Cotton Mills, Inc., High Point, and H. W. Buchanan, of Erlang- er Mills, Lexington, were reelected chair man and vice-chair- m a n , respectively. Hoit, vice- Pfesident in charge of domestics sales. Miss Murchison was formerly with Steuben Glass, Neiman Marcus, and ^arnmacher-Schlemmer in merchand- and sales promotion capacities. THE ‘WHEELS’, popular rock and roll band, will be among those providing enter tainment at the social meeting of the Junior Carolina Council at Meadow Greens Country Club, Friday evening, November 30. Members of the band and the instru ments they play are: Jerry Allen, piano; Russell Hill, electric guitar; Joel Gilley, rhythm guitar; Steve Koontz, drums; and Kerwin Smith, bass fiddle. Dinner Meeting Planned by Junior Council Brey To Address Editors Meeting Frank Brey, of the Fieldcrest Me chanical Development Dept., will be the featured speaker at the annual ban quet meeting of the Midwest Press Association in Leaksville, Saturday, December 1. Approximately 150 daily and non-daily newspaper men and wo men of Piedmont North Carolina are expected to attend. Mr. Brey, an OSS officer during World War II, will tell of his mission behind the enemy lines near Marseille, France. He and an other American offi cer, posing as Nazi soldiers, made their way to an enemy stockade in a truck, presented their pa pers and drove off with 26 airmen who were being held pris oners. These liberated men were especially valuable to the allies because of their knowledge of the Norden bombsight and later refinements on it. Mr. Brey couldn’t speak fluent German and his story proves amusing as well as ex citing as he recalls his experiences. The visiting newsmen will include editors, business managers, publishers, reporters and office personnel. Many will be accompanied by their wives. The group will be conducted on a guided tour of the weave room and the showroom at the Karastan Rug Mill FRANK BREY Games, prizes, dinner, musical enter tainment and dancing will round out a full program for the social meeting of the Junior Carolina Council Friday evening, November 30, at 6:30 o’clock at Meadow Greens Country Club. A large attendance is expected. The wives, husbands, and other guests will be invited. , Entertainment will include songs by Betty Dyer, Mamie Link and Harold Squires, and music by “The Wheels,” rock and roll band of Leaksville, fea turing Arnold Smith, a young vocalist, with impersonations of Elvis Presley. Following a turkey and ham dinner there will be dancing to the music of “The Wheels”. Mrs. Leone Spencer of the Blanket Mill, president of the Junior Coimcil, said, “We hope that every Junior Coun cil member will attend and we believe that the program will be something that each member will enjoy.” Mrs. Spencer and Lois Gillie, chair man of the Junior Council program committee, are in charge of the ar rangements for the meeting, assisted by Hilda Grogan and Katherine Man ley, of the program committee. between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. Richard H. Robertson, editor of The Leaksville News and president of the Press association, will preside at the banquet to be held in the cafeteria at Burton Grove school at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Mitchell Faulkner, pastor of Leaksville Methodist church, will give the invoca tion and Leaksville attorney Allan D. Ivie will give an address welcoming the newspaper people to the Tri-Cities.
