Again it is a pleasure to report to you that Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. has made considerable progress and improvement during 1956, our third year as an independent textile company. We still have several serious problems which have not been solved, and I can only assure you that these situations will continue to have our best efforts toward a successful conclusion in the best interest orf all concerned. For the second successive" year all Fieldcrest people have benefited from salary and wage increases. In addition to these general increases, our sales volume has necessitated a large amount of overtime operation. It is interesting to note that the total wage and salary payroll of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. for 1956 will be $19,114,222 compared with $16,882,904 for 1955,—an increase of 13.2 per cent. I am sure we all derive pleasure and satisfaction from the realization that these increased earnings are bound, to result in a higher standard of living for Fieldcrest em ployees and their families, as well as others in the local com munities. General economic conditions in our country are at a very high level. If these conditions continue we expect that 1957 will be another good year for Fieldcrest. We have ambitious plans for the future and with your continued cooperation and good will I am comfident that we will grow and be successful. In behalf of our stockholders, our directors, and our entire management group, I thank you for your good work during the past year, and extend our sincere best wishes for a Merry Christ mas and a Happy New’ Year to all orf you and your families.
