JR. COUNCIL SPEAKER—The Rev. Mitchell Faulkner, pastor of Leaksville Methodist Church, who addressed the Junior Carolina Council September 10, re ceives speaker’s gift from Margaret Crane, Industrial Relations Dept., program chairman.. Barton Honored For 40 Years Of Service Howard Barton, of the Engineering Department, completed 40 years of con tinuous service with the Company Oc tober 1. On behalf of President Harold W. Whitcomb, who was out of town on business, R. A. Harris, vice-president in charge of manufacturing, presented Mr. Barton with the Fieldcrest 40-year service emblem, a gift and a letter of commendation from Mr. Whitcomb. During his service with the Company, Mr. Barton has held various positions of responsibility, including that of as sistant manager of the old Nantucket and Lily mills, assistant general super intendent, plant manager of the Lily Silk Mill (later named the Synthetic HOWARD BARTON . Has Long Service . Fabrics Mill) and superintendent of the Sythetic Fabrics Mill for 15 years. He was transferred to the Engineering De partment in January 1953 as secretary of the Management Housekeeping Com mittee. He continues to serve in that capacity. Started In Nantucket Mill He worked in the Nantucket spinning room from 1910 until 1917, when he re signed to work for a few months in Greensboro. Upon his return in October, 1917, he began working in the beaming room at the Lily Mill. He later did the designing of ginghams for the Nantuck et and Lily mills and helped to start the manufacture of automobile head lining. He has served in managerial or staff positions since 1928. Mr. Barton was closely associated with vocational education in the Tri- Cities from 1919 until 1935. During this same period he completed the Inter national Correspondence Schools course in textile manufacturing. He has been active in the Southern Textile associa tion for many years and since 1942 has been secretary of Northern North Caro- lina-Virginia division.
