Awards Worth $2000 Each
Recipients of the two $2000 Fieldcrest
Scholarships awarded by the Fieldcrest
Foundation were announced September
1 by President Harold W. Whitcomb.
The winners, chosen by the Scholar
ship Committee from among the 22 ap
plicants, were Jerry Jenkins, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Jenkins, of Ridge
way, Va., and Linda Wilkinson, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Wilkinson,
of Spray.
Jerry Jenkins’ father is a twister op
erator at the Bedspread Mill with ap
proximately 25 years of continuous
service with the Company. Miss Wilk
inson’s father is general foreman at the
Finishing Mill on the second shift and
her mother (Juanita) is an order censor
clerk at the Central Warehouse Office.
In an informal ceremony in his of
fice, attended by the parents of the re
cipients and a part of the Scholarship
Committee, Mr. Whitcomb presented
each of the students with a check for
$250 for the first half of their fresh
man year.
The scholarships, each worth a total
of $2000, will be continued for the four
years of college attendance conditioned
upon the recipient’s maintenance of an
acceptable record.
The Fieldcrest Foundation will award
two additional scholarships each year

‘Virginians’ Band, To
Entertain At Picnic,
Is Well-Known Group
When Homer “T” and the Virginians
come here for the 25-Year Club picnic
Saturday, the club members will have
an opportuity to see and hear one of the
finest musical groups of its kind in this
section of the country.
The band has long been a favorite
on radio and television in the local area.
Homer “T” (the “T” is for Thomasson),
master of ceremonies, is a veteran of 15
years in the radio and music business.
He has been heard daily on WDVA in
Danville, Va., for the past 12 years and
has been a regular on the WDVA—^Vir-
