Exhibited by the Karastan Rug Mill were a 9 x 12 Bokhara rug in the Ka rastan quality and samples of the new Lanveau line of broadloom shown on a “waterfall” display rack. In charge of arranging the exhibit were John Buckner, manager of the Employees Store, and Lloyd Thomas and Jerry Wade, both of the Karastan Designing Department. ired Salesman Is Flower Show Winner ■ (Bill) Andrews, retired Field- Vai lives in Decatur., 111., for ^®3rs has made almost a clean top honors in the Illinois State N. ANDREWS Prize Dahlia Fair dahlia show. This year he gave a repeat perfor mance, winning a total of 65 ribbons, including a first place blue ribbon for his 12” X 9” dahlia named Arthur God frey. He won 40 ribbons on Rose Day, an event he helped organize at the Fair last year and which has proven to be the most interesting of all shows. At the Fair he won seven blue rib bons for dahlias and won a total of 24 first place ribbons for his 65 entries. Earlier in the summer he won 40 ribbons at the show of the Stephen De catur Rose Society in Decatur and 32 more at the Central Illinois Rose So ciety in Springfield. Then in August at the Macon County Fair he competed for the first time and won 17 ribbons for his 20 entries. How busy and how successful he has been in his hobby of flowers is shown by the fact that for the current year he has won a total of 154 ribbons in the various shows he has entered. Mr. Andrews retired under the Pen sion Plan in 1951 after a career of 42 years as a salesman with Marstall Field & Company and Fieldcrest Mills. He moved back to his boyhood honie and developed his garden, called “Tulip Towel Mill Honors Top Weavers, Fixers Several new names appear on the Towel Mill’s list of top quality weavers and loomfixers, indicating keen compe tition for the designation as leading operators. To encourage quality and efficiency in the weave room, the Towel Mill singles out for recognition each week the weavers and loomfixers with the best records. Names of the top operators are post ed on the weave room bulletin board and published in The Mill Whistle. The “Weavers of the Week” are those with the lowest percentage of seconds with respect to the standards for the various loom groups. The “top” loomfixers are determined through a combination of low seconds and high loom efficiency on the sections for which they are responsible. In addition to staying busy with his flowers, Mr. Andrews finds time to keep in touch with Company officials and other friends in the organization. In a recent letter to President Harold W. Whitcomb he took note of the Com pany’s purchase of the Greenville Mills, Inc. Mr. Andrews, now 74 years old, wrote: “Fieldcrest is sure going to town. What a pleasure it would to be a sales man for these wonderful mills. I wish I were 50 years younger and working for you all again.” Ay. SEPTEMBER 12, 1960
