Fieldcresters... Social^ Persona Katherine Manley holds hand bag she made from pine needles. New Handicraft Is Attracting Interest Another handicraft has caught the fancy of Fieldcresters. It is making articles from pine needles. The most popular articles are trays, basket and hand bags. Katherine Manley, receptionist at the General Offices, has made a hand bag using long pine needles and raffia. She covered it with a clear shellac and top ped it with wood fiber primroses. She can change the decoration to other flowers or fruit, getting any color she wants. Katherine worked on the bag for about a month in her spare time, and had some assistance from her mother, Mrs. J. W. Ward. A completed bag nor mally represents about 40 hours of painstaking work. A friend who is a member of the Ruf fin Home Demonstration Club made one of the bags and Katherine saw it. She had the friend to instruct her in making one and she used the friend’s hand bag to go by. A number of others in the Company are interested in the handicraft and are starting to make trays of pine needles. They’ll work up to making the hand bags. Katherine says she started at the top and made the bag first. From now on, though, she says she’ll work only on the simpler articles. - SMILES - There’s no fool like an old fool.
