pay tribute to Governor Luther H. Hod
ges in a special 40th anniversary pro
gram Thursday, November 10, at 7:30
p. m. in the Leaksville-Spray Junior
High School auditorium.
Governor Hodges who, with the late
L. W. Clark, was co-founder of the
Council, will be the speaker and guest
of honor. The Council will pay tribute to
him for his long association with the
mills, his continuing interest in the
Council, his community leadership for
many years and his public service to the
state and nation.
The wives of the Council members
are invited and members of the Junior
Carolina Council, with their husbands or
escorts, also will be guests. Several com
munity groups, including town officials,
ministers, teachers, and members of
civic clubs have been invited to join
in the tribute to Governor Hodges.
The charter members of the Council
and members of the Fieldcrest manage
ment group will attend a dinner with
the Governor at Meadow Greens
Country Club preceding the meeting at
the school auditorium.
Governor Hodges was formerly viee
president of Marshall Field & Com
pany and general manager of Fieldcrest
Mills. He took early retirement in 1950
after 31 years with the Company to be
come chief of the industry division of
EC A in West Germany. He earlier had
served on a number of commissions and
committees for the United States gov-

25-Year Club Invited
D. E. Simons, Council president, has
announced that, although it is not pos
sible to invite all employees to the pro
gram honoring Governor Hodges, due
to seating limitations, an invitation is
extended to all members of the 25-Year
Club and their wives and husbands.
“We felt sure that the long-service
employees, who have known Governor
Hodges for many years, would wish to
share in the program honoring him,”
Mr. Simons said.
