The 1960 frequency rate was 2.02, against 1.84 for 1959. In addition to the injuries causing lost time, in 1960 there were 10 cases which required medical treatment and were classified as sub-major injuries although no time was lost from work. There were eight such injuries in 1959. These figures were reported to the Central Safety Committee at its regu lar quarterly meeting February 1 by H. E. Williams, safety director. It was pointed out that while Field- crest’s frequency rate was higher than in 1959, it was outstandingly low com pared with the Department of Labor’s 6.5 frequency rate for the textile in dustry in North Carolina. At the safety meeting, C. J. Frank, director of industrial relations, extend ed congratulations to five units which in I960 qualified for State Labor De partment safety awards by having an accident frequency rate only 25 per cent or less of the State average. These were the Automatic Blanket, Bedspread, Karastan and Towel mills and the Specials Department. Ehiploy- ees of each of these units will be given a barbecue later in the year. F. E. Barron, assistant manager of the Bedspread Mill, was elected chairman of the Central Safety Committee for 1961, succeeding D. E. Simons, Towel Mill superintendent. J. G. Cunningham, superintendent of the Karastan Rug Mill, was elected vice chairman and H. E. Williams was re-elected secretary. F. E. BARRON J. G. CUNNINGHAM . . . Safety Leaders For 1961 . . .
