Employees Are Praised For Their Generous Support
Of Proposed Diagnostic And Treatment Center
In generous and unselfish support of Project D.T.C., again demon
strating their interest in the welfare and betterment of the Tri-Cities,
Fieldcrest employees pledged $127,667 in the fund campaign for a
Diagnostic and Treatment Center at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
Credit Union To Pay
Another 4% Dividend
Members of the Fieldcrest Mills Credit
Union in all locations will receive a
4% per annum dividend, figured on their
average monthly balances and credited
to each member’s share account as of
June 30, 1962.
The dividend was authorized by the
Credit Union’s Board of Directors at
their last regular monthly meeting.
The Credit Union, an all-employee ac
tivity at Fieldcrest, has paid a similar
dividend each six months since it was
organized in 1958.
$497,000 In Vacation
Pay To Be Distributed
Vacation pay for Fieldcrest employ
ees will amount to approximately a
half-million dollars. The vacation checks
will be distributed to eligible employees
with their regular paychecks on Thurs
day and Friday of this week.
The vacation pay, combined with the
regular weekly payroll and the month
ly payroll of salaried employees to be
paid Friday, gives a figure well in ex
cess of a million dollars that the com
pany will pay this week to employees
in North Carolina and Virginia.
A preliminary report by the Payroll
Department showed that 4,386 vacation
checks were written totaling $497,156.
Of this amount $381,416 will be paid to
3,387 employees in the North Carolina
mills and $115,740 will be paid to 999
employees of the Towel Mill at Field-
ale, Va.
As usual, a high percentage of the
employees now working will draw va
cation pay. In addition, those out sick
and those laid off within the past 12
months will, in most cases, be eligible
for some vacation pay.
Employees with five or more years
of continuous service get four per cent
of their past year’s earnings. Those with
from one to five years’ service get two
per cent of their past year’s earnings.
A tabulation of the results showed
that 3,522 employees made contributions,
pledging an average gift of $36.25.
In addition to the amount given by
employees, the directors of Fieldcrest
Mills, Inc., as individuals, contributed
$3,600, making a total contribution of
$131,267 by Fieldcrest people.
This amount, with the company’s con
tribution of $50,000, makes a total gift
of $181,267, representing over 60 per
cent of the over-all community goal of
$300,000.
Fieldcrest employees have received
congratulations and praise from the
campaign organization for their out
standingly generous response and their
promptness in completing their part of
the campaign for the hospital project.
In a message on this page, F'resident
Harold W. Whitcomb, who is general
chairman of the over-all community
campaign, commends Fieldcrest employ
ees for their outstanding accomplish
ment in giving such generous support
to Project D.T.C.
At Fieldcrest the campaign met with
success in all mills and in virtually all
departments. In several mill depart
ments and staff units, 100 per cent of
the employees made contributions and
many others had a high percentage of
participation.
The Karastan Mill won the bronze
plaque, to be given by the hospital
board of trustees, as the mill with the
highest average contribution per per
son. The average contribution at Karas
tan was $38.82. The runner-up for the
