Robert H. Wray, a loomfixer, points to one of the air distribution ducts in the new air conditioning system in stalled in the Bedspread Weave Room. Homer C. Vernon, humidifier and cleaner repair man at Bedspread Mill, observes stainless steel eliminator blades used with evaporative cooling: system. Air Conditioning Installed In Bedspread Weave (Continued from page one) helping to preserve the roof deck and the inside floors. The old saw-tooth type roof tended to “sweat” extensively. The glass win dows permitted heat to escape in win ter and heat from outside to infiltrate in summer, making it difficult to main tain uniform conditions in the weave room. In 1957 Fieldcrest lowered the roof over the Carding Department at the Bedspread Mill. The roof was flattened at the Sheeting Mill in 1958 as part of the extensive modernization program Training Courses (Continued from page one) length. The roof over the Blanket Weave Room was flattened in 1959 and the Towel Mill Room roof in 1960. Members of our Engineering De partment say that all over the South mills are getting rid of the old saw tooth roofs and that practically no new textile mills are being built with the saw-tooth construction. Safety Scoreboard Out of the accidents occurring at Fieldcrest during the month of August, only one resulted in lost time. Since August is normally a peak period for industrial acci dents, the low occurrence at Field crest indicates effectiveness in the control of injuries. Therefore, the special effort to “Make August A No-Accident Month” can be count ed as reasonably successful.
