Home Furnishings To
Win Camellia Award
Fieldcrest Mills received a special ci
tation for outstanding contributions to
fashions at the tenth annual fashion
awards festivities of Loveman’s, out
standing department store and impor
tant Fieldcrest customer in Birming
ham, Alabama.
Our Company, was among the five
award-winning recipients of special ci
tations. Frederic W. Hoit, a vice presi
dent of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. and presi
dent of the Fieldcrest sales division, ac
cepted the award on behalf of the com
pany.
Mr. Hoit, in acknowledging the cita
tion, accepted it for all employees of
Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., and stated that it
Was reassuring to know that outstand
ing stores like Loveman’s appreciate
our efforts in the fashion field and
that it would give all of us added
stimulation to continue our fashion
leadership.
Citation Praises Company
The Fieldcrest citation, handsomely
bound in leather, reads as follows:
“For outstanding contributions to
American fashion through their imagi
native approach to the use of color and
Pattern in the creation of coordinated
linens for the bed and bath which have
set new taste standards for the entire in
dustry and introduced a magnificent new
fashion element into American home
decorating.”
Of particular significance is the fact
that Fieldcrest is the first manufac
turer in the home furnishings field to
receive this honor.
The other award winners, all con
nected with apparel fashions, were

Mademoiselle Ricci Fashions; Edward
Corvey, marketing division vice presi
dent, American Machine and Foundry
Company, world’s largest makers of
bowling alleys and equipment, for link
ing fashion and function through a col
lection of bowling attire designed by
European designers; F. I. DuPont II of
E. I. DuPont de Nemours and Company,
for the development of Lycra.
The highlight of the week-long fash
ion awards program was the Camellia
luncheon and style show at the Birm
ingham Civic Auditorium at which the
awards were made. Over 1,000 local
women attended, and the proceeds were
given to the Linly Heflin Scholarship
fund.
A Steuben Camellia plate, one of a
set of 12, each engraved with a differ
ent flower, was presented to the award-
winning guests. This special recognition
to Fieldcrest—^the citation and plate—
will be prominently displayed in the
Fieldcrest New York Showroom so that
aU cusitomers and visitors will be aware
of this honor accorded our company.
W. 0. stone Receives Towel Mill Appointment
William O. Stone, Jr., staff assistant
to the superintendent of the Blanket
Mill, was appointed assistant superin
tendent of the Towel MiU, Fieldale, Va.,
effective October 1.
Mr. Stone has been with the company
since 1957 when he was employed as a
quality control engineer in the Re
search and Quality Control Department.
He left shortly afterwards for six months
service as an officer in the Signal Corps.
Soon after his return from service he
became a trainee assigned to the Dra
per mills. He has since served at the
Blanket Mill as foreman of the Cotton
Spooling, Winding and Warping De
partment, foreman of the Wool Spinning
Department and most recently as staff
assistant to the superintendent.
He is a native of Newberry, S. C.,
and a 1955 graduate of Clemson College
with a B. S. degree in chemistry. He
enrolled at the Institute of Textile Tech
nology at Charlottesville, Va., soon after
his graduation at Clemson, and received
his M. S. degree in textile technology
in June, 1957.
While attending ITT he spent one
summer at the Towel Mill where he was
engaged in a research project involving
carding and spinning.
