First lOOfo Day’s Pay Dept. This group gave outstanding response to solicitations in Community Fund campaign. Drawing Winners Winner of the 9 x 12 Amarapura rug, given as a grand prize in a drawing among all employees who pledged a day’s pay or more in the Tri-City Com munity Fund campaign was Sandra N. Howard, an employee of the Budget Department. The drawing for the big prize follow ed drawings for each mill and the com bined staff departments among those who gave a day’s pay. The drawings were held in the Conference Room at the General Offices Wednesday after noon, October 31. Present were repre sentative production employees from each mill and various members of mill management. The individual mill winners have their choice of a “Fashions of the World" bedspread, a Royal Satin sheet set in cluding a scalloped top sheet, fitted bot tom sheet and scalloped pillow cases; a Gold Crown automatic blanket or a Karastan Happiness rug. The agencies receiving support from the Tri-City Community Fund and the amounts allocated to them for their 1963 operations are as foUows: Boys’ Club, $8,300; Boy Scouts, $7,500; Receives Promotion In recent organization changes at the Blanket Mill, Luther Curtis Light, spool er fixer, was promoted to assistant fore man of the Cotton Spinning Department, third shift. On the third shift, he succeeded Ern est L. Smith, assistant foreman, who was changed to the second shift replac ing Guy E. Thomasson, assistant foreman who took early retirement under the Fieldcrest Pension Plan. Mr. Light is a native of Spray and was first employed at the Blanket Mill in 1946. He worked on a number of production jobs in the Cotton Spinning Department before he was transferred to the Spooling Department in 1954. He worked as a warper tender until he was promoted to spooler fixer in 1958. He continued to work as a spooler fixer until his latest promotion. 8 The Karastan Mechanical Develop ment Department was the first unit to report that 100 per cent of the employees had pledged a day’s pay in the Tri-City Community Fund campaign. J. A. Smith, Jr., head of the depart ment, said all of the employees signed up to give a day’s pay within 10 minutes after the Fieldcrest solicitations began. Members of the department, shown left to right, are Jack Burgart, Charlie Thompson, George Swinney, James Mc- Gavisk, Danny King, Robert C. Clark, David Kemp, Williams Shields and J. A. Smith, Jr., head of the department. Consolidated Central and Henry Street YMCAs, $11,215; Draper YMCA, $7,500; Girl Scouts, $4,431; Red Cross, $7,163; Rescue Squad, $2,345; Retarded Chil dren, $1,500; Salvation Army, $6,000; and Carolinas United, $4,859. CURTIS LIGHT Bedspread Mill Again Is Winner Of Plaque (Continued from page one) in the number of dollars contributed. Next to the top with respect to the total amount given was the Karastan Mill where the employees contributed $5,804.44. Competition for the President’s Plaque among the staff departments re sulted in a three-way tie when 100 per cent of the employees in the Engineer ing, Industrial Relations, and Stand ards departments pledged a day’s pay or more. The Industrial Relations Department was declared the winner by virtue of making the largest contribution in re lation to total pay. It was the fourth year that the Industrial Relations De partment has won the award and the third year that the staff competition re sulted in a tie.
