Prize Winners In Smithfield Campaign Grace Whitley, left, and Virginia Starling were recipients of prizes awarded among day’s pay contributors in Smithfield United Fund campaign. As a climax to the Smithfield United Fund campaign at the Automatic Blan ket Plant, drawings were held from among the names of employees who contributed a minimum of a day’s pay. Winner of a Gold Crown automatic blanket was Virginia Starling, a wire and tape sewer in the Sheet Wiring Department. Grace Whitley, a sheet assembler in the Sheet Wiring Department, won a Whisper Light automatic sheet. A summary of the campaign results showed that 325 of the plant’s 401 em ployees made contributions to the cam paign and that 182 employees pledged a day’s pay or more. The average contribution was $12.61 per employee who participated. The total amount given by employees was $4,098.84, which with the com pany’s gift of $500 makes a total con tribution of $4,598.84 by the Smithfield employees and the company. R. F. Sambleson, manager of the Au tomatic Blanket Plant, was chairman of the campaign and the solicitations were conducted by the supervisors. Mr. Sambleson expressed apprecia tion to the employees for their generous contributions and their cooperation in an important community project. New Names Appear On Towel Mill Honor List Many changes appear in the list of top weavers and fixers at the Towel Mill which is shown below for the most recent periods of record. To encourage quality and efficiency in the weave room, the mill gives rec ognition each week to the weavers and loomfixers with the best performance records. Names of the leading operators are posted on the bulletin board and are published in The Mill Whistle. The “Weavers of the Week” are those with the lowest percentage of seconds with respect to the standards for the various loom groups. The “top” loomfixers are determined through a combination of low seconds and high loom efficiency on the sections for which they are responsible.
