C., May 13, 1963 NO. 22 : DARLENE SCOTT JOYCE BARWICK WAYNE HALL . . Recipients Of Scholarships Made Possible By Fieldcrest Mills . . Three Scholarships Awarded By Foundation The names of three recipients of Fieldcrest Scholarships, awarded through the Fieldcrest Foundation to employees or children of em ployees, have been announced by President Harold W. Whitcomb. The winners, chosen by the Scholar- ‘Miss Tri-City’ Judith Lackey Bryant, “Miss Tri-City, 1963,” is a granddaughter of Charlie Aheron, a loomfixer at the Blanket Mill 3nd a long-time Fieldcrest employee. J'irst runner-up for the beauty title 'vas Patricia Yount and the second run- tier-up was Gloria Agee, whose mother, ^rs. Ruby Agee, is employed as an in spector in the Blanket Cutting and Sew- Department at the Finishing Mill. ship Committee from among 19 appli cations were: Joyce L. Barwick, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Wiley S. Barwick; Richard Wayne Hall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Truman Curtis Hall; and Dar lene S. Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Richard Scott. Both of Miss Warwick’s parents are employed in Spray at the Sheet Finish ing Mill, her father as a service opera tor and her mother (Ethel) as a sheet folder. Wayne Hall’s mother, Hazel Hall, is a weaver at the Blanket Mill in Dra per; and Miss Scott’s mother, Hallic James Scott, is a spinner at the Towel Mill, Fieldale, Va. All of the recipients were in the top five per cent of their class scholastical ly and all had good records in extra curricular activities. Miss Barwick and Mr. Hall are members of the 1963 grad uating class at Morehead High School and Miss Scott is a member of this year’s graduating class at Martinsville High School. Miss Barwick will attend Woman’s College, University of North Carolina. Greensboro, and expects to become a medical technologist. Mr. Hall is to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and major in mathematics. He plans to be come a high school math teacher. Miss Scott will attend Westhampton (Continued on Page Three) Roberts Is Director of Financial Institute Richmond R. Roberts, vice president- finance and treasurer, Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., has been elected a director of the Financial Executives Institute. He was chosen at the organization’s Southern Conference May 9-10 at the Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs, Ark. Active in the Institute since 1953, Mr. Roberts is immediate past president of its Carolina chapter. The Financial Executives Institute is a non-profit organization of financial executives from all fields of business— banking, manufacturing, distribution, utilities, transportation, etc. It was es tablished in 1931 as Controllers Insti tute of America. Mr. Roberts joined Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. as treasurer in February, 1957, and was elected a vice president in Decem ber, 1961. He came to Fieldcrest from the General Electric Company where he was a member of that compan;y’3 financial department for over 20 years. A native of Wise, Pa., he graduated from Emory and Henry College, Emory, Va., with an A. B. degree in English and Political Science and with an excel lent record in mathematics.
