Smithfield Men Get Promotions EDSEL JOHNSON In organization changes at the Auto matic Blanket Plant, Smithfield, effec tive June 1, Sherwood Stewart, boxing coordinator in the Blanket Wiring De partment, was promoted to assistant foreman of the Blanket Wiring De partment and Edsel Johnson, mechanic in the Plant Service Department, was SHERWOOD STEWART promoted to assistant foreman of the Molding Department, third shift. Mr. Stewart is a native of Benson and a graduate of Benson High School. He is not married. Mr. Johnson was born at Four Oaks and graduated from Four Oaks High School. His wife, Willo- dean, works in Control Assembly. Guards Qualify As First Aid Instructors Left to right, C. J. Frank, Jr., Fieldcrest director of industrial relations; S&t. Ran dall Dyer; Guards Charles Carrington, Jr., Cleatus Tulloch, Sr.; Hubert Cochran; and Major E. R. Pistilli, security officer at Fieldcrest Mills. Four of the Burns guards at Field crest were among the local-area persons completing the recent Red Cross first aid instructor’s course. Receiving cer tificates were Sgt. Randall Dyer and Guards Charles Carrington, Jr., Cleatus Tulloch, Sr. and Hubert Cochran. The 15-hour course was taught by Russell H. Tagert, Jr., a Red Cross vol unteer instructor from Greensboro. The guards were congratulated by C. J. Frank, Jr., director of industrial re lations at Fieldcrest, for their interest and unselfishness in giving of their time to obtain knowledge to impart in formation that may save lives, reduce suffering and build positive attitudes for safer living. Les Kittredge, manager of Burns’ Richmond, Va., office, also sent con gratulations, pointing out that the Burns organization stresses the importance of safety and first aid. He recalled that some of the guards at Fieldcrest already have put their training to good use in helping injured persons.
