Smithfield Data Processing Is Expanded
A 2,000 square foot addition has been
built to the office of the Automatic
Blanket Plant at Smithfield to provide
space for the recently-installed 1401-G
computer. Smithfield Data Processing
has moved into the new quarters.
The new addition has a separate air-
conditioner and humidifier for main
taining constant temperature and hu
midity control. The sub-flooring was in
stalled one foot below the regular floor
level, and then a “false flooring” was
installed on this which permits placing
all cables between the two floor levels.
There are no outlets above the floor
level in the new addition since all cords
go through the floor and are plugged
into receptacles which are on the sub
flooring. This permits flexibility when
installing new equipment or rearrang
ing equipment for a better work flov,^
Norman Nelson, office manager at the
Automatic Blanket Plant, said at pres
ent the Data Processing Department
there is keeping Customer Service, Pro
duction Control and Inventory Control

possible to list some inventories and
value them within minutes after the
close of business.
Also being worked on are some In
dustrial Engineering and Cost Depait-
ment special projects which should be
completed shortly, Mr. Nelson said.
