Muscogee Mill Wins Safety Award The Muscogee Mill at Columbus, Ga., has received the award for second place in the annual Georgia Textile Manu facturers Association safety contest for plants in Georgia with over 1,000 em ployees. This is the highest rating the Muscogee Mill has ever attained in the safety contest. The award was presented to Field- crest Mills at the 18th annual safety conference of the GTMA recently at the Marriott Hotel in Atlanta. It was accepted on behalf of the company by J. L. Crabtree, personnel manager for the Muscogee Mill. Georgia Labor Commissioner Sam Caldwell commended the Georgia textile companies for their outstanding safety records. Speaking to more than 250 textile officials attending the confer ence, honoring the plants with the top records, Mr. Caldwell noted that the textile industry frequency of accidents was one of the lowest in the 18-year history of the contest sponsored by the GTMA. The frequency rate this year for the Georgia textile industry — the state’s largest industry with nearly 110.000 em ployees and an annual payroll of $475 million—was 5.97 accidents per million man-hours worked, compared to a 13.2 accident frequency rate for all industry nationally. The frequency rate for the Muscogee Mill was 1.3. Stephenson Elected NCNGA Vice President Joseph R.
