Harris Is Elected College Trustee Election of Robert A. Hajrris, vice president—manufacturing of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., as a trustee of Campbell College at Buie’s Creek has been an- mM ROBERT A. HARRIS . . . Honored By College . . . nounced by Norman A. Wiggins, presi dent of the college. Mr. Harris, a native of Warren County, attended Campbell College for two years and was president of the stu dent body. At the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, he majored in accounting and received his B. S. in commerce degree. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, national scholastic fraterni ty, and to Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society for the School of Commerce. He was an accountant with the U. S. Steel Corporation in Birmingham, Ala., before serving as a naval officer in World War II. As a lieutenant, he was commanding officer of a minesweeper and served in both the Atlantic and the Pacific. He joined Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. in 1946 as a cost accountant and subse quently served in a number of staff and managerial positions. He was assistant manager of the Blanket Mill, 1949-1954, and later was assistant comptroller and assistant treas urer. In May, 1955, he was elected sec retary and treasurer and in June, 1956, he became vice president — manufac turing. Visiting interior decorating students admire samples in Karastan showroom. RCC Class Makes Tour Of Karastan Members of a class in interior deco rating at Rockingham Community Col lege were given a special tour of the Karastan Mill on one of the field trips taken by the class to nearby industries and businesses. James E. Troy, Karastan’s director of product development, arranged a tour that would be most meaningful to the class in connection with their studies of styles, colors and wearing qualities of rugs. Mr. Troy served as guide for the tour. Approximately 20 persons are en rolled for the studies, a non-credit course in the Adult Education Division of the college. Mrs. Haven Newton, of Eden, is the instructor. Most of the stu dents are from the Eden area and many of them are employed in the Fieldcrest plants.
