Blanket Mill Men Complete Long Records
Two Blanket Mill men have completed
outstanding records of continuous serv
ice with the Company. William J. Long
of the Cotton Carding Department has
completed 45 years and Howard L. Neal
has attained a 40-year record.
Each of the veteran employees was
honored in an informal ceremony at the
mill and was presented with the ap
propriate Fieldcrest service emblem and
a letter of commendation from Presi
dent G. William Moore.
Mr. Long was born in Henry County,
Va., and began working at the Blanket
Mill October 15, 1923. He has never
been off the payroll since that time
except for his service in World War II.
He has worked in the Cotton Carding
Department during his entire 45 years
of service. He first operated “speeders”,
then was a roving inspector, and for the
past approximately 25 years has been a
drawing tender.
Mr. Neal, a native of Danville, Va.,
has worked in the Blanket Mill weave
room continuously since October 5, 1928.
He earlier had worked as a weaver in
the Sheeting Mill starting in 1926 and
also had worked briefly in 1928 as a
drawing tender in the Blanket Cotton
Carding Department.
Mr. Neal was a filling carrier in the
Blanket Mill weave room from 1928 to
1939. He was promoted to weaver in
1939 and continues to work in that
classification.
