Greenville Waste Reduction Program Getting Good Results The 1969 Program of Waste Reduc tion and Follow-Up is well under way at the Karastan Spinning Mill, Green ville. The thoroughgoing program was launched January 1 and the results through week ending February 9 show all departments exceeding their waste reduction percentage goal. The Karastan Spinning Mill has done a very good job of waste reduction for a number of years. Tremendous progress was made prior to 1966, particularly during the early 1960’s through the in stitution of formal programs for con trolling waste. To further reduce losses from waste the mills began this latest intensified campaign in order to create interest and solicit the assistance of all employees. Meetings have been held down the line, including a meeting of assistant fore men with the employees on their re spective shifts. A daily follow-up of waste control is conducted and employees are informed as improvements are made. Employees are invited to make suggestions and copies of the suggestions are posted in each department. Recognition in The Mill Whistle and otherwise is to be given employees who make suggestions that greatly improve waste conditions or elminate the con dition. An over-all waste committee com posed of three supervisors and a repre sentative of the Industrial Engineering Department will continue to make monthly waste inspections. The inspec tions will emphasize items discussed in the earlier group meetings and posted in the departments. A similar waste reduction program has been set up at the Winchester Spin ning Corporation, a Fieldcrest subsidi ary at Asheville.
