Rose Show At Store is Big Success The Eden Rose Society’s 10th annual rose show, held at the Fieldcrest Store in Eden, attracted 487 entries, the largest number yet shown. Large crowds of spectators from many sections of North Carolina and Virginia attended. Queen of the Show was won by Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Stroud, of Chapel Hill, for their “Pascal!”, a white rose. The Strouds also won the King of the Show, and the Sweepstakes Award donated by Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. Miss Gertrude Snead won the Home Savings and Loan Association Award for her Maid of the Court, “Mission Bells”, a deep pink rose. The Eden Rose Society Award for the best group of five Hybrid Teas was won by Miss Louise Swinney who also won the Alva E. Fair Memorial Award for the best group of three Floribundas. Miss Ginger Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Wilson, of Duke Power Village, won the Miss Louise Swinney Bowl for her best rose group by children. She exhibited a “Little Darling” Floribunda rose. A large number of others, including several Fieldcresters, won blue ribbons of the American Rose Society. Officers of the Eden Rose Society are: H. E. Williams, president; John R. Mc Gavisk, vice president; C. C. Campbell, treasurer; Mrs. Virginia Richardson, re cording secretary; and Miss Louise Swinney, corresponding secretary.
