From left. General Davis, 1st Lt. McGavisk, 2nd Lt. Jefferson, 1st Sgt. Lee General Davis Visits Guard Unit Major General Ferd L. Davis, adjut ant general of North Carolina, made his first official visit to the Eden National Guard unit recently. He spent an after noon at the National Guard Armory, meeting with guard officers and civic officials. A military man for 28 years and a much-decorated officer in World War II, General Davis has visited over two- thirds of the National Guard units in the state since he was appointed adjut ant general February 1. Prior to his ap pointment he commanded the 1500-man Support Command of the 30th Infantry Division (Mechanized). General Davis is shown above (far left) with 1st Lt. James R. McGavisk of the Karastan Mechanical Develop ment Department, who is commanding officer of Battery C, 4th Battalion, 113th Artillery, at Eden; 2nd Lt. Tom my Jefferson, foreman of Carding and Spinning at the Blanket Mill, who is executive officer of the local guard unit; and 1st Sgt. Dwight Lee, another Field- crester, who is employed at the Bed spread Finishing Mill. Raines Is Named Fieldale Personnel Manager Osborne L. Raines, Jr., previously as sistant personnel manager, has been ap pointed personnel manager of the Towel Mill of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. at Field- ale, Va. Mr. Raines succeeds James M. Rim- mer, Jr., long-time personnel manager who will continue with the Company in a special public relations capacity. Mr. Rimmer will maintain an office at the Fieldale Towel Mill and will report to Haven H. Newton, Fieldcrest Mills vice president of industrial relations, Eden. Virginia Native A native of Chesapeake, Va., Mr. Raines graduated from Virginia Poly technic Institute with a B. S. degree in business administration and received a master of business administration de gree from the University of North Car olina at Chapel Hill. A reserve officer, he spent two years on active duty with the Army in Ger many prior to joining Fieldcrest Mills in 1966. He was an area personnel man ager at Fieldcrest plants in Eden, N. C. before he was transferred to Fieldale in October, 1969, as assistant personnel manager. Mr. Raines is a member of the Fiel- O. L. RAINES dale Rotary Club and is a Methodist. He is married to the former Doris Brownley, of Chesapeake. The couple presently lives in Eden but will move to Fieldale when housing arrangements have been completed.
