Lindsey’s Sculpture Gets Praise A life-size sculpture of a football player was an outstanding entry at the recent Dillon (S. C.) High School Art Exhibit. The artistic creation was built by Charles Lindsey, a rising senior. His father, Raymond Lindsey, is employed in the Tuft ing Department at the Laurelcrest Carpet Plant, Laurel Hill. The sculpture is three feet high in the crouched linebacker position and wears the black and gold uniform of the Dillon High Wildcats. Charles, an art student, and member of the football team, built the armature, or skeletal structure by weld ing twenty feet of %” round iron into the correct position. The head and muscular portion of the body was formed around this with crushed newspaper. This base was covered with Pariscraft, an art medium consisting of gauze strips coat ed with Plaster of Paris, and then the features were painted. The finished sculpture and stand weigh about 60 pounds. The sculpture, along with many oil paintings, ink drawings, blockprints, pastels, and drawings done by the art classes at Dillon High School were exhibited in the main hall of the High School immediately after the Class Night ceremonies. A quanti ty of ceramic work, consisting of figurines, plaques, and life- size heads were also on display. The Anchor Club sponsored the display and invited the gen eral public to view it. t 'A — c f 8 Charles Lindsey with his sculpture of football playef THE MILL WHIS'I'^
