L. Superior Student D. Patterson, 1971 Fieldcrest 6d recipient, has been select- frp °ne of 21 students to enter the General Honors Program fall Appalachian State University this Sen chosen as a result of test recommendations, personal in- hon written responses. The Chester T. Robertson is general fore man of the Inspecting Department at the Bedspread Mill, Eden. He has re sponsibility for batching, shearing, grad ing, inspecting and repairing all of the bedspread and drapery fabric woven at the Bedspread MiU. Other parts of his responsibilities are the checking for running defects and reporting them to the Weave Room and the shipping of the boxes of fabrics to the finishing mills. A native of Eden, he has been, with the Company over 40 years. He began at the old Lily Mill (later called the '■= fiogram wui suosmute inaivm- 3rd , and research for the stand- lecture class situation. Max Smith, director of the pro- Sfaiji says the purpose of the honors is “to meet the needs of the superior student, enabling him to gain knowledge at his own accelerated pace”. The Fieldcrest scholar is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Patterson. Mr. Patterson is a second hand at the Blan ket Warehouse. Mrs. Willis retired early as a draw-in l9fin Blanket Weave Room in Butch Overby is holding his white rabbit, Harvey. Butch is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Overby of 431 Lawrence Street, Eden. Mr. Overby is employed in the Bedspread Mill Inspect ing Department. '^MDAY, JULY 19, What about your pet? He later worked as warp hang er and as a loom fixer before becoming a shift foreman in the Weave Room in 1945. He continued in that capacity for 16 years until about the time the Syn thetic Fabrics Mill was closed. He then transferred to the Bedspread Mill as sample and change man. In January, 1959, he was promoted to shift foreman in the Weave Room and in November, 1961, became night foreman. He has been general foreman of the Inspecting Department since November, 1965. While at the Synthetic Fabrics MiU, Mr. Robertson completed the Interna tional Correspondence Schools course in rayon weaving. He has taken num erous company-sponsored courses as part of his supervisory training. Active in Community He served as a director of Central YMCA for several years and for a long time was a member of the Boy Scouts’ Dan River District committee. He and his wife have been members of Spray United Methodist Church for many years. Horseback riding was his chief hobby for a long time until he sold his horses recently. Mr. Robertson’s wife is the former Sunshine Fagge, also an Eden native, who worked in the Blanket Warehouse Storage and Shipping Office for over 32 years until she took early retire ment in 1970. They have two sons, T. F. (Tyke) Robertson and Hal K. Robertson, who operate Robertson Bros. 66 Service on Highway 14 at Eden, and three grand children. Mr. and Mrs. Robertson Uve at 113 Adams Street. Paper Drive A paper drive has been scheduled by the Eden Jaycees for Sunday, July 25, at 2 p. m. Citizens are urged to bundle their papers and magazines and place them on the curb in time for the Jaycees to pick them up on the 25th. Donald R. Henry, a loom fixer in the Bedspread Mill Weave Room, is chair man of the drive for the Jaycees.
