Miller Assigned To Smithfield Position Pi Kenneth w. miller, jr. ^'^NDAY, march 2 0, 1 9 7 2 Kenneth W. Miller, Jr., has been ap pointed manager of mill accounting-au tomatic blankets, at the Automatic Blanket Plant, Smithfield. He replaces C. A. Hooks, Jr., who resigned to ac cept a position as finance director for the North Carolina State Republican Party. Mr. Miller joined Fieldcrest in No vember 1970 as a senior mill account ant in the Bedspread Mill Accounting Department and served in that capacity until his recent promotion. A native of Chardon, Ohio, he grad uated from Miami University of Ohio with a B.S. degree in accounting. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force, last seeing duty as a captain in charge of weapons control for Missile Testing in Panama City, Fla. Mr. Miller, his wife, Katie, and their 15-month-old son, Matthew, will reside on Pecan Street in Selma Improper lifting can result in pulled muscles, disc lesions or hernia. Mills’ Vacation Will Be Week Of July 2 Fieldcrest’s manufacturing plants, generally, will be closed for vacation the week beginning July 2, as announc ed by Arthur L. Jackson, vice president manufacturing. The early announcement of the va cation schedule will help employees in their planning, reservations at the beach, visits to relatives, etc. In mills and departments where there are exceptions to the general shutdown, the employees affected will be noti fied by their mill management. A more detailed announcement con cerning vacation arrangements will be made later. Old Newspaper Tells Early History Of Mills Located In Eden Area (Continued from Page Two) len D. Ivie, Sr., P. H. Joyce, and her uncle, Frank Joyce, were partners in Floyd Hill Fur niture Company, an early business es tablishment on the Boulevard. Most of the ads in the old newspaper concern patent medicines, some claim ing miraculous cures. Local firms whose ads were carried include Dan River In surance and Land Company, E. E. Em erson, manager; Dr. J. E. Warren, den tist; Imperial Bank and Savings Com pany; and also J. C. Harris, dealer in house furnishings, undertakers’ sup plies, etc. Commenting on the old newspaper, Mrs. Goldston said: “This was before my time but I was interested in read ing the history of the mills, also about the men I’ve seen and heard about all my life.”
