One sure way to get it is by Mf.'^l^lhg base with your social security llce before you actually quit work, is suggested that you pay them ^ONDAY, may 15, 1972 a visit about three months before you retire. There are several reasons for this. There is more to filing a social se curity claim than just signing your name. You will be required to furnish proof of your age. For people now reaching retirement age, this raises some problems because official birth records may not have been systematically kept at the time they were born, in the place where they were born. But while a birth or baptismal certifi cate issued before a person was five years old is considered the best proof of age, other documents can be used if those records are not available — school or church records, for example, or a family Bible, an old insurance policy, military or immigration records, mar riage certificates, and the birth certifi cates of children. If you visit or call your Social Security Office before you retire, the people there will be glad to go over the docu ments you have on hand to see whether they will serve to prove your date of birth. Some people want to work after re tirement. When you check with your so cial security office ahead of time, you can learn how work after retirement will affect your social security checks. In addition, there may be other ques tions you have which can be answered, before you even stop work.
