A large number of Fieldcrest doffers nave indicated they would like to take Part in such a contest. Arrangements nre being made and details will be Siven the interested doffers as soon ns possible. An informal committee made up of textile industry officials and representa tives of the American Textile Manu- tacturers Institute has met and formu- tated suggested rules and regulations tpr competition to determine the na tional champion. It was agreed that the ATMI would ®nnve as official sponsor of the national Competition. Following is a draft of rules and reg ulations for a proposed tournament: Warp And Filling Doffers Competition will be in two categories: 1. Warp doffer 2. Filler doffer • . . which means there will be two National champions. general procedures agreed CPON ARE AS FOLLOWS: Each participating company, regard less of size, will be permitted two en trants in the industry-wide competition ''■One warp doffer and one filler doffer. Although companies may use any r.-'eth- of selecting their champion differs, It is suggested that they follow the same Procedures that are being recommend- ^1 for the industry-wide competition. The committee agreed that compefi- pon should be on a home-to-home ba- in order to compensate for varia tions in spinning frames. That is, a ooffer -ftrould compete against a chal lenger both on his home ground and ep his opponent’s home ground before a winner could be proclaimed. A winning match would consist of the best total averge time in doffing six frames—three frames on the doffer’s home ground and three frames on his opponent’s home ground. Time would be expressed in bobbins per minute, carried to three significant decimal places. Timing procedure would be as fol lows: 1. Time would be based on the to tal average time required to doff six frames. 2. Each frame will already be “pull ed down” with all ends up. 3. The doff box should be pre-posi- tioned, if desired by the doffer. 4. Paper tubes or quills may be pre positioned, if desired by the doffer. 5. Time shall begin when the doffer grasps the thread guide to raise it. 6. Time shall stop when the last end IS pieced up and the doffer has finish- the complete cycle of the third frame. 7. Walter Tinsley, of the Bedspread Mill, also has challenged but will not be able to compete since he is now a fixer. Other employees wishing to compete should notify their per sonnel manager. The doffer may not run. 2. Bobbins dropped on the floor must be picked up. 3. If these rules are not adhered to, or if the proper doffing procedure is not adhered to in every respect, that frame will be eliminated from scoring consideration and the doffer’s score will be the average of two frames instead of three. Eligibility Requirements Eligibility requirements -will be as follows: 1. Only one warp doffer and one filler doffer may compete as repre sentatives of any one company. 2. Women may compete on an equal basis with men. 3. The doffer must be a working doffer. An individual who has been transferred or promoted to another po sition does not qualify. 4. The entry fee would be on a com pany basis, the amount of the fee to be $25 for each cotton system spin ning plant currently in operation by the entering company. 5. Any company may enter the com petition, regardless of trade association affiliation. 6. Entries for the national competi tion will close July 1, 1973. This means that participating companies must com plete the selection of their champion doffers by that date. Implementation of the national com petition would be as follows: The committee proposed to pair com pany entries arbitrarily, with a view to pairing companies initially in close geographic relationship to each other. This would minimize traveling necessi tated by the doffers competing on each other’s home ground. % I
