Larkin Speaks At Fieldale 25-Year Club Picnic Long-service employees of the Fieldale Towel Mill were honored at the well-attended 25- Year Club picnic held Saturday, September 14, in the picnic area at the Fieldale Baseball Park. S. R. Culligan, Fieldale personnel manager, was the master of ceremonies and called on W. 0. Stone, Jr., division vice president-bath fashions manu facturing, who welcomed those attending and recognized a number of special guests. G. L. Caraway, manager of warehousing and customer service, presented the 10 new members becoming eligible for the 25-Year Club this year. Mr. Stone introduced Francis X. Larkin, former divisional vice president and merchandise manager of towels and bath fashions who was recently pro moted to the newly-created position of executive vice president of the Karastan and Laurelcrest marketing positions. In a brief talk, Mr. Larkin recalled his association with the towel operation and Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. He praised the loyalty and long service of the 25-Year Club members and stressed the importance of quality. He told of the company’s reputation for quality and said that the company’s towels have had a big part in causing the Fieldcrest name to be honored for quality and style virtually throughout the world. Mr. Larkin described the American Treasures Collection created from designs in the Smithsonian Institution. He showed the towel items in the American Treasures line and told of the background of each and of the faithful reproduction of these designs. In referring to the 25-Year Club picnic, he said, “This is an occasion on which the company can and does express its appreciation for its people. I want to express to you the appreciation of marketing personnel for what you have done for Fieldcrest.” In the drawings for attendance prizes, the winners, who received towel sets, were: Luther Compton, Clarence Wright, Edna Rea, Anne Minter, Charlie Ramsey, Lloyd Nester, John Perry, Buren Via, Clarence Hopkins and Velma Via. Nellie Mills was winner of the contest to guess the number of nails in a container on displaji the picnic. 1 Entertainment was furnisk by the Fieldcresters Quartel Eden, whose gospel-sinji program was greatly enjoj Manuel Spencer gave ! invocation which preceded: picnic supper.
