Four Cotnpl&to Long Rocords Of Service
Four Fieldcrest employees
recently completed outstanding
records of 45 years of continuous
service with the company. They
are Louise G. Suttenfield,
Karastan; William J.
Robertson, Grounds
Maintenance, Eden; Gladys D.
Holland, Business Information;
and David A. Brady, N.C.
Finishing.
Each long service employee
has received the Fieldcrest 45-
year service emblem, a $45 gift
certificate for company
merchandise, and a letter of
commendation from president
William C. Battle.
Louise Suttenfield, a grader at
the Karastan Rug Mill, began
continuous service on
September 30, 1929, as a burler.
She has worked her entire 45
years at the Karastan Rug Mill.
Before becoming a grader in
1943, she worked as a repairer
and also as a yarn server.
William J. Robertson,
supervisor of grounds
maintenance and soil conserva
tionist, began employment with
Fieldcrest on September 30,
1929, as a slat filler at the old
Woolen Mill. He worked at the
Woolen Mill until 1949, when he
went to the old Synthetic Fabrics
Mill as a utility man. He became
supervisor of yard maintenance
in 1951, and was given added
duties as land conservationist in
1973. He has responsibility for
the guidance, supervision and,
as needed, in the maintenance
and conservation of all Field
crest land outside the mills in
Virginia, North Carolina,
Georgia and Alabama, as well as
advice on grounds maintenance
of all mill property.
Gladys D. Holland, a cost
clerk in the Business Infor
mation Department at the
General Offices, began
continuous service on October 2,
1929, as an order checker at the

W. C. Flake, plant manager, congratulates Laurelcrest
Carpet Mill employees for achieving 1,000 man-hours
without a lost tune accident. Coffee and doughnuts were
served to employees in the canteen. Congratulations were
also given to Laurelcrest Service Center employees for
attaining 1,000 accident-free man-hours. They, too, re
ceived coffee and doughnuts.
9-Year-Old Baseball Fan
Sees His Idol Play At Last
Robin Gurley is shown fol
lowing a trip to Atlanta in July to
see the Atlanta Braves play.
Hank Aaron is Robin’s idol and
this trip was to celebrate his 9th
birthday which was July 4.
He is shown wearing an
Atlanta Brave helmet which was
purchased for him as a souvenir.
Robin is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Daniel B. Gurley of Kenly,
N.C. His mother, Gladys, who
accompanied him to Atlanta, is
employed as a circuit inspector
in the Wiring Department at the
Automatic Blanket Plant. She
has been employed at the
Automatic Blanket Plant since
April of 1961.
