Daughter Of Employee Featured As Balloonist In Sports Magazine Davis Joins NCF Division Pamela Henry, daughter of Chris Henry, salesman for Karastan Marketing Division, is featured in the October issue of “Women’s Sports” magazine as one of the world’s “most respected” balloonists. The lengthy article, which describes and illustrates a recent ascent by Ms. Henry over Princeton, NJ., reports on the growing popularity of balloon racing as a sport in this country and internationally. Glenn A. Davis recently joined the North Carolina Finishing Company as a Project Engineer. He will report to Vernon Wilkerson, director of engi neering and services at NCF. The story points out that Pamela, a graduate of the University of North Carolina, started flying balloons in 1967, “when there were only about 25 balloonists in the whole country” and only one of three women. The author of the article, Maury Z. Levy, goes on to state: “Pam Henry has cautiously worked her way up to become probably the top female balloon racer in the country and one of the most respected balloonists in the world. She lived in Paris for awhile and gave ballooning les sons throughout France and Italy. A little while back, in Eng land, she won her first interna tional race.” Mr. Davis will assist with the installation of secondary waste water treatment facilities. He will also be active in energy conservation projects, steam and power generation, process instrumentation, electrical control systems and the design of process equipment for textile finishing. A native of Wilmington, N,C., Mr. Davis is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a B. S. degree in mechanical engi neering. For the past several years he worked as a consulting engineer in the design of water and waste water treatment plants. He has completed-Waste Treatment Plant Operator’s course and received a Class II Waste Treatment Plant Opera- GLENN tor’s Certificate. In fact, he adds, she has been flying since she was teen ager and before taking up bal looning held a pilot license for multi-engine aircraft. “She’d flown everything from big jets to seaplanes to an open cockpit World War II bomber.” (Continued From Page Two) Pam Henry is shown here adjusting the flow of propane gas that heats the air which causes the halloon to go up or down. She is shown in the steel and wicker gondola or basket in which she rides during her many ascensions. There are no seats in the basket and seat belts are not used. Pam has made hundreds of ascensions since she has taken up the sport, but has never had an accident. She attributes this to the fact that she is aware of the fact that as a “petite” woman she knows her physical limitations and does not take beginning December 2: Bookkeeping, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 p.m. to 9:55 p.m.; filing, Mondays and Wednesdays, 8p.m. to9:55 p.m.; office machines, Mondays and Wednesdays, 8p.m. to 9:55 p.m.; shorthand, Mondays and Wednesdays, 6p.m. to7:55 p.m.; typing, Mondays and Wednesdays, 6p.m. to9:55 p.m.; and typing, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. to 9:55 p.m. Currently under way art secretarial and businesses offered by RCC for Field employees and Eden resii Both courses are being gif the Training Department!
