IRS Will Assist Four Complete Long Records Of Serv/ceJ With Tax Returns Representatives of the Internal Revenue Service will be in the Social Services Office on Washington Street in Eden February 5 and 6 to assist taxpayers in preparing their 1974 income tax returns, Robert A, LeBaube, Director of Internal Revenue Service for North Caro lina, has announced. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. IRS representatives have requested that second and third shift Fieldcrest employees who wish to receive assistance with their tax returns go to the Social Services Office as early in the day as possible so that first shift employees may receive assistance in the afternoon after their shift ends. Taxpayers should bring their 1974 tax forms packages with the peel-off label intact, W-2 forms and receipts and-or cancelled checks for deductions they intend to itemize. F'ieldcrest employees wishing to itemize deductions may pick up forms for listing deductions from their area personnel managers. These forms will greatly speed up filling out the tax returns. Those filers have a refund coming can receive their checks in from four to five weeks if they file their returns in January or F'ebruary. Waiting until the last minute before the April 15 deadline can mean a wait of up to eight weeks for a refund, according to the IRS. Scholarship Applications (Continued From Page One) scholarship should obtain an application form from their area personnel manager or personnel office, or call at the Employment Office of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. in the General Offices building, Eden, or write to Mr. M. B. Franklin, Industrial Relations Department, Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., Eden. Applications are taken only once each year, during February, with the March 1 deadline. The employee (parent) must have at least one year of continuous service as of the date of application. The applicant must be planning to attend a 4-year college or university full time and must not have attended college or have college credits. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of high school grades and scholastic aptitude for college work, plus considera tion of citizenship and financial ,need. The Fieldcrest Foundation awarded 12 scholarships to children of employees in the spring of 1974 to make a total of 92 Fieldcrest Scholarships that have been given since the program was started in 1960 There are now 34 sons and daughters of employees attending colleges and universities with the aid of Fieldcrest Scholarships 2 Earl G. Hawkins, an overhauler in the Carding Department at the Alexander Sheeting Mill, Forest City, recently completed an outstanding record of 45 years of continuous service with the com pany. Three other Fieldcrest em ployees recently completed records of 40 years of continuous service. They are George E. Medford, a spindle plumber- overhauler at the Alexander Sheeting Mill; James T. Wilson, a fireman in the Plant Service Department at the Blanket Greige Mill; and Frank Helton Saul, a fixer in the Spinning Department at the Bedspread Mill. Mr. Hawkins began continuous service on December 17, 1929, as a frame tender in the Carding Department at Alexander. Working his entire 45 years in (he Carding Department, he has worked as a fixer, comber fixer and Card Room fixer. He became an overhauler in November, 1973. Mr. Medford began continuous service on December 18, 1934. Mr. Wilson joined Fieldcrest on January 8, 1935. Working virtually his entire 40 years at the Blanket Greige Mill, he has worked in various classifications including blender tender, lift truck operator, coal roller and boiler room cleaner. He became a fireman in the Plant Service Department in 1969. Mr. Saul began continuous service on January 28, 1935. He has worked his entire 40 years at (he Bedspread Mill in various classifications including doffer, fixer in training, and spindle plumber overhauler. He became a fixer in 1963. FRANK IIELTOfii MR. AND MRS. HOMER I. FAIN, SB- Celebrate 50th Anniversat Mr. and Mrs. Homer I. Fain, Sr., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday afternoon, December 29, at the New Heights Baptist Church ellowship hall. Some 100 guests called between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Hosts for their parents were Mr. and Mrs. Homer I. Fain, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Fain and Mr^and Mrs. Jimmy Clark, all of Eden.
