Hostesses Wear Costumes From 'American Treasures'
Colonial costumes made from
products in Fieldcrest’s
American Treasures Collection
continue to be seen by important
audiences.
In Raleigh recently, costumes
worn by hostesses at the Jeffer-
son-Jackson Day breakfast were
made from products in the
collection, based on authentic
designs in the Smithsonian
Institution. Also, the costumes
were shown and discussed on
Betty Elliott’s talk show over
WRAL-TV, Channel 5, in
Raleigh.
Hostesses at the Jefferson-
Jackson Day breakfast,
attended by 500 people from all
over the state, were members of
the Wake County Democratic
Women’s Club. One of the
hostesses was Mrs. Earl
Vaughn, formerly of Eden, who
made her costume from Printing
Block Rose sheets.
The week following the
breakfast, Mrs. Vaughn’s
costume was worn by Mrs. C.
Gordon Maddrey, president of
the Woman’s Club of Raleigh,
when she opened the annual
Antiques Fair. Mrs. Maddrey is
the mother of Joe Maddrey, an
attorney in Eden.
Wearing the costumes in the
picture above are, from left to
right, Mrs. Vaughn, Mrs. Tom
Barringer, Mrs. Ed Hedgepeth,
Mrs. Joe Johnston and Mrs.
Betty Arrington. In Ira
five-year-old daughter
Johnston.

Safety Glasses Prevent Eye Injuiy
Matt Redd of the Fieldale
Towel Mill feels like he is a lucky
man. He has two good eyes today
because he was wise enough to
wear safety glasses.
I m thankful I was wearing
Mr. Redd, a bale opener in the
Carding Department, was
opening a compressed bale of
cotton. When he cut one of the
bands a piece flew off and struck
his safety glasses. The metal
frame holding the lens was
broken and the lens knocked out.
Mr. Redd’s eye was not injured
my safety glasses,” he said, x
know I would have lost my eye if
it hadn’t been protected. Nobody
has to remind me to wear my
safety glasses while I’m
working.”
The Fieldcrest Safety
Department has nominated Mr.
Redd for membership in the
Wise Owl Club, of America a
natiorial organization composed
ot industrial employees whose
eyesight has been saved by the
wearing of safety glasses.
