Holly Spinning The Mount Holly Spinning Mill, purchased by Fieldcrest in 1963, is located in Mount Holly, N.C., near Charlotte. The mill has been in continuous operation since 1905 with the exception of a brief period in 1916 when the area was flooded. The combed yarn manu factured at Mount Holly is used by Fieldcrest at the Fieldale Towel Mill. It replaces large purchases which were made from outside spinners prior to 1963. Since purchasing the Mount Holly Spinning Mill, Fieldcrest has spent more than one-half milion dollars on improvements designed to bring about greater efficiency and economy of operation, higher quality and more attractive and comfortable working conditions. Among the improvements made following the purchase are: installation of combers, addition of 50 percent more space in the Picker Room, purchase of new warpers, addition of space in the Shipping Department and, more recently, the purchase of new spoolers. Prior to the purchase by Fieldcrest, the mill was operated as Kimberly Mills, owned by P. J. Baugh, and pro duced carded knit yarns. It was converted by Fieldcrest to the production of combed yarns. The mill now consists of 66,869 square feet of space which includes 53,725 square feet of manufacturing area, 10,500 square feet of warehouse space, and 2,644 square feet of space used for miscellaneoius opera tions such as boilers, compressors, etc. At present, 11,520 spinning spindles are in operation and ap proximately 110 persons are employed at the Mount Holly Spinning Mill. ■min SIBYL BOLTON, spinner V- 4 X'f Yi. .Iv' THELMA LAZENBY, tailing machine operator.
