She Makes Frogs, Pincushions
To Earn Money For Club ProieC'
Frogs and pincushion hats? An
unlikely combination, but one
that Jacqueline McBride has
converted into a very successful
fund-raising project.
Mrs. McBride, a member of
the Eden Y’s Menettes, has
raised $500 to be used by this
organization to help pay for the
renovation of the YMCA swim
ming pool in the Draper section.
She has raised the money by
making fat, colorful frogs and
attractive pincushions shaped
like hats. She began the project
alone, but it became so
successful that now other ladies
in the Y’s Menettes are also
making the items. They have
sold more than 300 so far.
The extensive repairs have
already been made on the
YMCA pool at Draper and now
One Year Old
both the Y’s Men and the Y’s
Menettes are busy trying to
raise the $20,000 needed to pay
for them. About $1,500 has been
raised already. The goal is to
pay the entire amount in three
years.
Mrs. McBride, a physical lab
technician in the Quality Control
Department, Eden, turned in her
$500 in rather an unusual way at
the annual Christmas banquet
held by the Y’s Men and Y’s
Menettes in December.
She presented the group with
the original “Freddy” the frog.
Unlike his froggy friends,
Freddy wears a top hat, and
inside his hat were tucked five
crisp 100 dollar bills.
Mrs. McBride also received a
surprise herself at the banquet.
She was named Y’s Menette of
the Year by the organization.
Another Fieldcrester. was
named Y’s Man of the Year. He
is R. L. Glasgow, superintendent
of the Cut and Sew, Packaging
and Warehousing Department at
the Blanket Finishing Mill.
