Her picture did not arrive in time to be included in the August 16 edition of The Mill Whistle with the other new recipients. Dividend Voted Directors of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. voted on September 2 to pay a quarterly dividend of $.25 per share on September 30 to holders of record September 16. All three of Elmer Haynes’ sons have entered the field of radiologic technology, two of them with the aid of Fieldcrest Foundation grants-in-aid. Roger and Eddie Haynes both graduated this year, Roger from the Roanoke Memorial Hospital School of Nuclear Medicine and Eddie from Mars Hill College with a B.S. degree in radiologic technology. Roger is now chief of nuclear medicine at Community Hos pital in Roanoke, Va. and Eddie is the educational coor dinator and is teaching at the School of X-Ray Technology at the same hospital. The brothers, both of whom are graduates of the X-ray school at Virginia Western Community College, complet ed their studies with the help of Fieldcrest grants-in-aid. An older brother, Kenneth, is assistant chief of radiologic technology at Martinsville Memorial Hospital. All three became fascinated with this relatively new field as young teenagers and apparently never swerved from their goals. “It’s a field that is expand ing by leaps and bounds as researchers find more uses I..■’; ' Elmer Haynes, center, with sons, Roger, left, and Eddie. for X-ray,” Roger said. “It is already being used in the treatment of many diseases and also is becoming increasingly important in the diagnoses of a number of phy- Elmer Haynes is 3 ^ sicll disorders,” he said. at the Fieldale Towel Mill . Halston To Design Carpet Collections (Continued from Page One) work with Karastan because of the uncompromising dedi cation to quality and fashion and their unquestioned leader ship in carpet design,” Halston added. “That is why we went to Hal ston and asked him to create a series of new carpet designs for Karastan.” First Retiree At Laurel Willie Mudd, center, is the first employee to retire from the Laurelcrest Yarn Mill since it began operations in 1969. He is con gratulated by Richard McDonald, left. Yarn Mill plant manager, and Ron Hunter, area personnel manager. Three Months Old Tanya Renee Coleman, three months old, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Coleman. Her father and mother, Kathy, are employed in the Spinning Department at the Draper Sheeting Mill. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Rakes. Mrs. Rakes, Frances, is also employed in the Spinning Department at the Draper Sheeting Mill. Paternal grand mother is Mrs. Pauline Cole man. TANYA RENEE COLEMAN Mr. Larkin reported that Halston will work closely with Karastan’s design staff in de veloping his new carpet and rug collections for Karastan. But, he stressed, Halston will be free to create his own de sign concepts in broadloom carpets and rugs. Halston’s carpet collections are sche duled for introduction by the middle of 1977. “Quite frankly, over the years we have been ap proached by a number of other name designers with proposals to develop new styles for Kara stan,” Mr. Larkin said. “But we felt that the concept of quick-changing fashions basic to the apparel field did not relate to carpets and rugs where style changes are more gradual and evolutionary. After all, the average homemaker does not change her carpet every year because it’s out of fashion. “However,” he added, “our attitude changed when we ob served the remarkable col lection of bed and bath fashions Halston created for Fieldcrest. “We recognized at once that Halston’s great talent could readily be translated into classic fashions for the home that offer not only excitement and innovation, but also lasting beauty that never really, goes out of style. With a design philosophy of “Less is best,” Halston’s crea tions have been marked by simplicity, avoidance of over decoration and classic style approaches ever since he be came a name designer at Bergdorf Goodman in New York and where he won his first Special Coty Award in 1%2. for Hartmann and in that year introduced a I, wear collection known as ^ ston Three.
