He previously held the office of vice
chairman and secretary in the NSC
Textile Section. He currently is pre
sident of the North Carolina chapter
of the American Society of Safety
Engineers.
Mr. Baggett is a graduate of North
Carolina State University with a B. S.
degree in civil engineering. He
became a Certified Safety Profession
al in 1972 and was elected a Profess
ional Member of the American
Society of Safety Engineers also
1972.
He is a native of Raeford in Hoke
County and served in the Marine
KEN BAGGETT
Corps 1953-56. He joined Fieldcrest as
safety director in l%5.
Percy T. Hailey, Retiree, Dies At 96
Percy T. Hailey, one of the
company’s oldest retirees, died
February 3 at the age of 96. A long
time supervisor at the old Spray
Woolen Mill, he had been retired
under the Pension Plan since 1946.
A native of Pittsylvania County,
Va., he came to Leaksville (now
Eden) at the age of 12 and resided
here for 84 years. He went to work in
the Woolen Mill in 1922 as a fixer in
the Spinning Department. He became
a foreman in 1932 and served in that
capacity until his retirement.
As a young man in his early 20s he
served three years in the Army at
Fort Monroe, Va., where he was a
bugler. After his military service he
played the comet in a community
band at Leaksville, which the family
thinks was called the “Smith River
Band.” He also taught guitar lessons
in the community. He was an avid
sports fan, baseball being his chief
hobby.

PERCY T. HAILEY
Mr. Hailey married the former
Minnie Smith (now deceased) who
was employed in the Burling
Department at the Karastan Rug
Mill. He was a member of the First
Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Funeral services were held
February 5 at the Fair Funeral Home
